Eh.. How can one be if the person lives in a country that is divided in most of it’s major opinions? It’s valley of death stuff. Ride in irregardless or think for yourself and theoretically rule when everyone slaughters themselves. I’m not about to allow slaughter to happen. But thinking is good.

Not really. I’m pragmatic enough to know that the US is good, but far from great. I do believe we’d be better off practicing isolationism, which is not uncommon to nationalism. Of course it’s too late for that now, but i’ve held that opinion for probably 35 years. I should really sit down and pen that “I told you so” to DC. Ell oh ell!

I mean from what I understand the nationalism thinking in the United States is the best country on earth and would defend her till death yeah so as accepting people from other countries or coming I don’t care just do it through the legal process please

How do you define nationalism? If you ask me, nationalism is pride in your country to the point where you think your way of life should apply to other countries by the way of conquering them.

Sorry, 27 days later. But that is a decent definition. I see it as patriotism amped up, or want your country to do better than others. A literal negativity of other countries.

What's wrong with wanting your country to do better than others? The fact that each country makes itself productive as a competition to others is a good thing, as it is a sort of determines the best way to run.

You will want your country to have the greatest pull factor and less of a push factor and it is the individual who makes the decision to stay or go. Obviously, not all countries allow their own citizens to leave in which case we usually deem their way of governance undesirable, otherwise they wouldn't feel the need to keep everyone inside.

My priority in life is not to do better than my neighbor or friends. A psychiatrist would call that narcissism. Seems to be nationalism is.

No, narcissism is when you let your pride get in the way of your relationships with others, in the scale of countries that is nationalism. Especially when you try to conquer others.

You can strive to be the best you can possibly be without becoming arrogant, but that takes a lot of work because corruption can really manifest in situations like that.

Exactly. I think people confuse the two terms sometimes and it's really important that we get that straight otherwise no one will know what people are talking about.

yeah theyre certainly similar. And if you're in the soviet union fighting for your own country's freedom they would call you a nationalist. So context matters.
