If someone asked you for your mother's maiden name, would you tell them?

One of the typical security questions asked to verify your identity online is "What is your mother's maiden name?". Others include "your first pet's name?", "your first car?", "where were you born?" and others. If someone other than you knows these answers, they may be able to steal your identity, buy things that you'll have to pay for, or other nasty things.

If someone asked you any of these questions in an email, text or other social media, how would you answer?

Only if they are legit, like my bank or something. I've done it with some web sites if I trusted them. I wouldn't answer anything too personal at a site like this for example. It's not even entirely about trust, it's also about whether I think they have any business knowing it. Something I never do is text verification. I'll do email, but they ain't getting my phone.

If you want to learn a new language it's going to take many years to master it okay apps and language apps those are just tools they can help you out a little to practice but what's really going to help you is is actually using the language in conversations and practicing with other people and being immersed.

I would tell them that my mother's name can only be pronounced by the inhabitants of Omnicron Persiei VIII, that if the human tongue tried to pronounce it it would strain itself so bad it would never recover, and if a human ear heard it, that if it weren't for their eardrums instantly shattering, their brain would explode.

No. If I don't know you, why do you need to know any of that... especially via the internet? Nice try. My passwords are also not the "typical" ones like first car, birth date, etc.

How would I answer? I'd tell them straight up it was none of their business and they did not need to know this information.

I would not answer any of these questions unless the site can be trusted. Like IRS. gov or Ebenefits.  I try to be as careful as I can when it comes to things like this. Better safe than sorry.

I tell them when they pay me a salary. Then I’ll give it to them!

They should be asked to sign a liability form. So if their system gets hacked. They are responsible for making you whole again!

My mother's maiden name is very German, very long and complicated to pronounce to the point that the credit card people often beg for mercy when checking it.

I have a false sets of answers for those type of questions and I change them for every service I use, and for services like banking I shift to another language besides English.

Depends on the site and security. I use my paternal grandmother’s maiden name. It’s shorter. My mother’s is more like a run-on sentence.

As a security question, I would say yes. In an enscripted site whre its safer than on a media platform, I would. But not on social media.

No. Those are answers to security questions used to identify someone when accessing a web site. Information posted to social media is a boon to hackers.
