Actually, "pedophilia" is practiced by just about every mammal- i. e. engaging in sexual activity with "juveniles." It's also done by penguins. Rape and pedophilia are practiced by every species of monkey, as is homosexuality (especially among bonobos); so, I'm not sure why you think it's some rare issue/ mutation.

Excluding attraction to "little children," i. e. prepubescents, which affects 1-5% of men (according to an NIH study), nearly all men are attracted to teens- under the age of consent.

Also, according to physiological response tests, and various studies, men's attraction to women PEAKS in their mid-teens (which is why on attraction graphs, men's attraction to women starts at a high of 18, then levels off, before dropping... do we really think it goes from zero to 100?). My speculation would be that attraction is a gradual development that doesn't suddenly turn on at a certain age (e. g. 16, or 18, or 21), and varies somewhat from person to person, but it's pretty universal that a women around mid-teens (14-16) who has already hit puberty, is fertile, and is healthy enough to have children would have been the ideal mate, given the fact that most women died before they were 20 years old for 99% of human evolution. It's also widely accepted that women develop physically before their male counterparts. Human maternal mortality was notoriously high; so, younger teens were best able to handle this, not to mention few children survived childhood; so, having more kids was the trick to actually propagating the species.

As I explained, teenagers have the things men find attractive: youth, and fertility- without going too far with the youth. I think most of the complications teens face with having a pregnancy has to do with their lack of resources that women in their 20's have (especially those who are married, have income, and health insurance), rather than their not being physically adequate to have children. I mean, think about it: if a woman's fertility takes a steep decline at 30/35, and we're told that only mid-20's women are ready to have kids (if that), then human fertility is a measly 5-10 years long? Compared to our lifespan that doesn't even make sense.

When we were an agrarian society with a 20% literacy rate, there was no reason to take an extra ten to twenty years to get an education, start a career or “find yourself,” you got to work early.

Living in Africa I've seen that in indigenous people it's virtually unheard of. Villages take care of the children from the village. If anyone, traditionally, hurt a child the village administered swift justice - no repeat offenders. also it's not a mutation, it's the result of a brain glitch in childhood (it's not really understood exactly but it's linked to autism, sexual trauma as a kid, and mental illnesses like shizophrenia, seizures and actual physical brain injuries. if certain parts of your brain are affected by the glitch thing, they'll stop maturing and because of that they'll keep your age preferences at the age the brain problem happened)
