Why does society not care about a man untill he becomes suicidal?

I keep seeing so many times that society turns a blind eye to a man's existence and just pretends that the man doesn't even that all his time and effort and energy is ignored for all the good he has done but In the end is ignored but until the man becomes suicidal society starts to care
