Why is the metaverse being encouraged and pushed so much?

I really don’t see the benefit and how can society push this, when so many in our new and older generations have already complained about feeling distanced from others, with this “online wall” that allows us to draw pictures, like some industrial, anti-social, cave-man and letting others read it, without ever talking and connecting in-person.

Why are humans trying to “take out humanity” from us. Why “glorify” metal and technology, to almost replace us altogether?

Does anyone on GaG actually favor this new step?

So I’ve never stepped into the meta verse but I can understand the appeal, I read a lot of fantasy novels that deal with the idea of a meta-verse Come on understand the appeal of it is the fact that you can start this whole new life in my case it’s a fantasy reality with goblins in orcs elves and dwarfs and other fatalities characters and creatures. The appeal is you get to start in a whole new life where nobody knows you and you can be yourself with a bunch of gamers who are nerdy like you and/or deal with the gamers that haven’t put the time and effort in to a game and don’t know what it takes to reach the higher levels which is another appeal to the game for example I would love to enter a world like Skyrim and be able to professionalize my class strength and learn some magic and be able to beat them most powerful human on the planet.

I do think that you bring up a good issue of this isn’t reality the appeal to these games is the fact that it’s not reality it’s the fact that you can start a whole new life you may be poor as shit in real life but you’re rich in the game you can essentially do whatever you want in the game and if he can help designees like eating sleeping and not being able to die off permanently there is much appeal into taking more risk and bettering your character. Again the issue is like you said it takes people out of reality, it gets you adjusted to a certain society that is different than your own and psychologically it could change your nature and how you interact with people in the real world doesn’t have a benefit to society as a matter fact it’s probably dangerous to society for economic growth and development and relationships in the real world because you build these relationships in game and those are the people you trust rather than the people in real life.

I now definitely see some of the hype, but as an ex gamer, I can definitely declare I had issues when I would dedicate hours… to finding the right “combination” of beating others opponents, especially those who “bought” upgrades. For a time I was pretty good and they assumed I bought and I admitted I didn’t. Point is, eventually they just bought more and some hacked. My devastation wasn’t pain.. it came out as rage, and I would rage on those who were stupid and mindlessly bought any skill or accessory and had basically bragging rights because of it. I’ll admit I felt attached to my character because I invested so much energy, and time, and strategy. Can you imagine in games that only encourage hostility and competition- that were to make a player feel like their digital personality is *not good enough?* It doesn’t encourage helpful coping, but on the contrary, promotes aggression and a feeling of not knowing what to do with self.

Not only this, but you’re right about the trusting aspect. I feel like it promotes an actual loss of sense of reality, and that’s all we humans have at our core. A loss of reality messes up every factor of life.. it’s a mental illness is what it is- it’s like not being sober, it’s like a dog with rabies. It means two things:

1.) people won’t work as hard to enjoy real life and they won’t know how to cope with two lives that are disappointing to them

2.) it promotes a mental blockage of knowing what’s real

And 3.) it desensitizes us as always, it promotes aggression and I’m not sure how much sympathy is even found in games.

I see the hype but as an ex gamer I don’t think this meta verse will do any favors for us but be a crutch. Maybe nice to try but it can literally become an addiction.

We know people have addictions and age limits to drugs and substances, but no one puts restrictions on the medias. It concerns me more than anything. I’m not angry l, but concerned.

I’m reading these comment by comment this is me reacting to the first one, I totally get it in still kinda in that mind set, I’ve been playing this Jurassic world Alive game it’s a lot like Pokémon go except you can join what they call alliances to donate and get your team up, i as a gamer have put so much time and effort into building up my team and destroyed someone in our alliance who obviously was a paid to play, I called him out on obviously spending hundreds of dollars on the game I get the battle pass cost me 20$ I understand getting those thing but a straight up spend hundreds on your team that’s obviously play pay to play which irritates me I work hard I buy the battle pass and I work hard on the game itself regardless of the rewards It gives, I’m 13 he got to 12 with in 4 years of playing with “sometime off” with an amazing team very obviously bought and paid for,

Replying to the second comment here, you’re totally right if you can build us a universe let’s call it where you’re not yourself you’re somebody else or you are truly yourself and don’t have to follow the laws of society you can be a player killer in a sense of murderer without any repercussions. And since this is where you can bring sword art online the anime into perspective, if you care about human life and human resources and getting back into reality he would protect everyone who is stuck in the game and not purposely kill anybody. But PKers are actually killing people inside online is no longer a game it’s survival so you turn out to be in this world where everything is a survival game. Of course they have turned into a love story where you have king George fighting the dragon in a sense trying to save the maiden and waiting. But again isn’t that the fantasy men and women want? Say even I a stranger that you do not know came and saved you from a dragon that was about to eat you and kill you would probably fall in love with me any girl would. Which brings a broader question of the society I could go on for another two hours like I’m Jordan Peterson but I leave you wanting more of my Analysis for now all you need to do is ask

So you can understand my frustration. I’m guessing this is a common issue in most games that allow spending and higher rated spending. I mean.. the online metaverse and games just don’t interest me because they have their peaks.. I would tell the rare buyers- what happens if you play against another buyer? I’d tell the hacker, what happens when you play against another hacker? I mean cmon it’s not even wit anymore if the whole game is bought for or if someone is playing by literally shitting certain parts of the game off… even if a millionaire would invest in a game it can only go so far with upgrades and that’s on money alone and zero thought on it. I guess if I want thought I’d be better off with Chess ♟ than something that has obvious limits.

Point is, in these games there will always be losers there will always be someone better than another in this so called meta verse, and I’m just not interested in how those who fit those categories will be forced to cope. Will it be a toxic addiction where they remain there feeling ashamed? Or will they become aggressive in both “universes…” one of them obviously has extreme consequences… it’s not just some GTA kind of thing lol can’t simply respawn..

I don't know I just don’t like the feeling I get when I think about people having their brains hooked up to these electronics and not being present at all.

This is unchartered yk? With food and chemicals scientists tested on lab rats or chimps, but only humans use technology and if we run into major issues- I wonder what people will think, then.

I totally get it I’m somebody who is struggling with addiction myself a drink I’ve been getting a lot better and I drink in about three times a week are used to be every day and that was two weeks ago still smoke a lot of weed but as somebody who is used to working at night my body when I decide to stop drinking at night decides to keep me awake until about four or 5 o’clock in the morning, The Metaverse would affect us far more than people understand you’re poor in this reality you’re 92 years old in this reality why not enter a space where you could live for hundreds of thousands of years and by the time you’re done you’re in the same shape and you’re 150 years old. Sure everyone want to live forever, especially if your an atheist, to atheist there is no afterlife there is no kingdom of god or Nirvana or even reincarnation, I’m personally agnostic which means I don’t know I’m searching for the correct answer, People like Sir Thomas Moore who was knight by knight Henry the VIII and later executed by king Henry VIII because he oppose the creation of the Anglican Church. Appreciate the polite apology in thinking this could be too much for me, but I 100% agree that if the world embraced the idea of god and the morals behind it the simple 10 commandments as you said, then a lot of evil would be diminished maybe even altogether. It didn’t take me a book and a half to realize that, but simply knowing that because despite my shift in beliefs- I know Christianity played a major role in my view of people and it led me to make logically safe and respectable choices. Actually I agree with you, now I’ve been listening to a do orthodox conservative Jews over the last couple years Dennis Prager and Ben Shapiro, as well as a couple protestants known as Canciones and Andrew Klavan and a couple Catholics known as Michael Knowles who is so right leaning that he is banned from Fox News and Matt Walsh creator of the documentary what is a woman?

As an agnostic who grew up in the evangelical church and moved on from Nazarene in Methodist And then agnostic could because I feel like not that hit the mark as far as scientific reality and religion. The Catholic Church turned me off because of the sexual-harassment scams but given secularism having the complete wrong idea of chopping women’s breasts off at your age offer for your 20 right? And someone a year who is nine years older than you I knew a lot the tom girls Who grew up to be women unfortunately left leaning. Because this world is taking a quick turn twords dangerous levels of consumerism and encouraging rather saditary lifestyls Where people are spoonfed convenience solutions, instead of problem solving and proactivness. We are on the verge of what can almost feel dystopian. In my opinion it could be somewhat a distraction or manipulation ment for the masses from political hierarchy to regain a footing on world order caused by the problems that linger from recent events, similar to the "bread and circuses concept" It's like sitting your kid in front of the TV so you can finally get those few important things done without distractions that they have no clue about. This has been always the way of virtual reality.

Let's say the most famous game dungeons and dragons it was once called the the game of the devil 😂.

Now you see movies action figures people role playing and the game is digitalised now

If you consider these games what are they really they are something to bypass the reality.

People who often couldn't find something worth within themselves often get sucked up by virtual accomplishments.

You can take example of tiktok a 20 seconds of act could make you popular and so many people died or are in depression that they don't get likes or subscription.

It's just a way to sell their products for most of these companies by feeding the idea to general public that this is the new in lol.

The only way what we can do is to control ourselves and to use these tools to make our life easier and not to be their slaves.

There was never any benefit to social media, yet the sheep that wanted to fit in to the crowd joined sites like FaceBook to be tracked and categorized for government and corporate surveillance because they were told by media it was popular and cool. When they got on those sites they were manipulated by bots which were used to push their behavior in one direction or another for control of their minds. The same goes for jacking humans into the matrix. It's bad for humans, but it is an easy interface if you want to monitor people's brains and control the way they think. That is the plan. it's basically a digital platform that combines social and gaming aspects. providing a game engine and a consistent world where digital assets (such as digital land ownership and decorative as well as functional items to make games out of) can be created and sold.

i personally think it's not gonna be a big thing but it is a fancy new hype word that you can get out of touch elderly investors who don't understand videogames to investand then run away with their money, after nobody cared for the platform and it's assets. they're basically selling a vision of the future that's not gonna happen.

I was just trying to use unreal engine as an example. It's just a software you can make videogames with. There's digital models for sale and free to use to make whatever game you like. You can often notice when a game was made in unreal engine, cause you recognize for example a tree model that another game also used.

So imagine such a platform plus social media driven online MMORPG where you can buy and sell assets and game experiences. It's not a stupid vision but not one that will happen any time soon.

The metaverse is coming whether we like it or not. It will be exciting and interesting and beneficial and harmful in may ways. It will be interesting to see how if affects relationships. In terms of harm, I'm going to go out on a limb here and that predict it will hurt females more than males. Males are already into gaming and virtual worlds and are already withdrawing from society and relationships for a lot of reasons. The main thing keeping them engaged with women is their need for sex, but porn is fulfilling that need for many already. It's actually not something people are asking for, so it will be a big money pit. It doesn't matter how much they pump into that people that want to hang out in vr will do so in games not in metaverse. While most won't have anything to do with it at all. It's the same with web3. It won't take over because it's worse than regular web in all shapes.

Web3 and Metaverse are touted for being the "next big thing" in online working and interaction.

Web3 is more about decentralised internet. Whereas Metaverse is more about cryptocurrency and "full time online" virtual spaces.

Both are used like they are the same, but they are separate.
