When and why did you decide you were no longer in favor of abortion?

I became an opponent of abortion after seeing ultrasound images of my daughter from age 3 months to birth. Seeing her moving and her heart beating in the uterus gave a clear indication of life. I had seen many ultrasound images in school, but seeing ones of my own child was a very powerful experience.

Abortion is murder.

I've always been against abortion. I think the biggest turning point for me though was when I saw ultrasounds of my son, and other images of him later on in my wife's pregnancy.

I'll also admit that for a time, I was I guess we could say somewhat wishy-washy on just how committed I was.

Let me explain. I'm Catholic. There is a way of thinking in the Catholic Church, often propagated by more liberal and heterodox voices, called by some the "seamless garment theory", a reference to Jesus' robe over which the Roman soldiers cast lots at the Crucifixion; others call it the "consistent life ethic". It essentially states that all matters regarding the sacredness and dignity of human life, created in the image and likeness of God, are connected; If you consider yourself "pro-life", then in addition to opposing abortion, you also ought to oppose the death penalty and be just as concerned about poverty, immigration, military action and war, the environment, and so forth.

Also worth noting is that this theory was popularized by Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, a Satan-worshipping sexual predator who sometimes moonlighted as the cardinal-archbishop of Chicago from 1982 until his death in 1996. But I digress.

Anyway at first, it sounds like a good idea. In reality though, it's a downright evil proposition by which I at one point had been deceived. Thankfully, I eventually came out of it and thoroughly and entirely reject and denounce it. The main reason is that what it really does is minimizes the evil of abortion while exaggerating, or even sometimes fabricating the evils of other issues. There are many others, but that's the main reason I dropped it.

For me it was pictures of aborted fetuses. It was absolutely heartbreaking. How anyone can do that to their own child is beyond me.

I do respect your right to your opinion even though I do not share it. I try to respect everyone's opinion on abortion even though they often don't respect mine. However, I don't see it as murder as to me that implies malicious intent, and most of the women I know who have had abortions either did so out of a feeling of desperation or had some unfortunate medical reason for doing it. I think when I became more prochoice in my beliefs (I used to lean more towards prolife) was when I realized how cruel and unfair life is for most people. The boys and girls in the foster system that get abused, the number of children and teens that get trafficked into the underage sex trade. The fact that girls as young as ten (even younger sometimes) get raped and pregnant, and also the fact that homicide remains the leading cause of death among pregnant women (which is a fact many don't like to acknowledge even though it's true and yet where the moral outrage about those women getting murdered). There is also a much higher rate of maternal death among black women as well as our country has the highest maternal death rate of all developed nations. I would love to just be prolife and see no reason for abortion, but I would also like to see fewer reasons for abortion to even be a thought in any woman's mind. I believe there are things as a society we could be doing, improving sex education, improving access to healthcare which would include affordable contraceptive care, improving the standard of living, having a better justice system to keep violent offenders locked up for longer, better child care options for working parents, more paid time off for women (and the men who are the fathers) to be able to afford to miss work for prenatal visits, maternity leave, etc. Also better tax cuts for families with children, and yes I think that should include fathers who are paying child support.

I also know that bans don't stop abortions, they only stop safe abortions, so women will die if they don't want to be pregnant, maybe that doesn't phase you, but it disturbs me to think a living breathing person will die by doing something unsafe out of a feeling of desperation or because of doctors wasn't sure if her life-threatening health risk was going to be justified not to land them in prison. Is cancer that could metastasize enough of a risk, is high blood pressure that could damage the kidneys enough of the risk? I refuse to prioritize the life of the unborn over the life of the born woman in these instances. I realize you are a man, these are not choices you will have to be faced with, but for many of us who are women, we may have to consider these things for ourselves and others like us. For me to be antichoice I would have to have zero empathy for anyone faced in these situations and I don't care how much you and others might hate people like me, I'd rather be hated by people with no ability to empathize in these instances, then to be an antichoice person without the ability to have empathy for others. Sorry if that sounds harsh maybe that doesn not describe you but lately it seems that those who are pro-life care more about the unborn than the actually living breathing people. They also seem to lack any empathy for those less fortunate than them, like I said sorry if that's not you but I sure see that type of vitriol from others who claim to be prolife.

I didn't, I'm in favor of it existing but it should be very infrequently used. Yes, it is murder, at a minimum killing.

If the adults in charge of the child aren't going to care for them and maybe even hold a grudge throughout life, if they aren't willing to give the child up to someone else to care for, then the child has 0 chance in this world. We meet these kids all the time and see them on TV when they go nuts. I see the work parents do to raise their kids, and it's a lot... it's essential to have people whom care. People who want to murder their kids, that's life, I'm sad for them and I pray for them. We (society) should offer trauma therapy and other services to prevent from happening again.

Life is precious and all life should be given a chance. I do the same for wounded or displaced animals around my house. Forcing an emotionally challenged female to produce the child, often without support of the father and family support, is a recipe for disaster.

Anyone standing there (in spirit or physically) forcing a woman to "man up" should be actively engaged in helping them get on their feet so they are successful. That is a noble feat.

No. This is a leading question, sir. While I know in my heart abortion would be a last resort for me, I do not claim to make that decision for others. I found out recently my now deceased aunt had an abortion when when was 18. She relied heavily on my dad’s advice as he was like a parent to her. In the end he told her she needed to make her own decision and she had the abortion. I do not judge her and she went on to have two more beautiful daughters.


If I were in a situation where my unborn baby would suffer if born it would be a VERY hard decision. Just saying.

I don't think it's a leading question at all - it was meant to elicit from people the story of their journey from approving of abortion to the point where they longer do, and how and why that happened. I can not help it if people took it past that point, which some did.

Remember that we are talking about murder here, and premeditated murder of children at that. It is not trivial at all, and I would not use such a clumsy construction as a leading question in the hope of eliciting opinions I happen to agree eith.

Honestly around 2014 2015 I’ve been pro life for a while I’ve gotten even more extreme pro life since then. When I learned how Blaise so many women are about abortion now. When we normalize abortion and reduce it to the significance of essentially a teeth cleaning then as a society we've lost our humanity. Ending a human beings life (and it is a life) is a big deal.

That is not how it's done. Instead, the doctor makes a hole in the child's head inside the birth canal so nobody can see, then puts a vacuum line inside the wound and sucks out the brain, and then collapses the empty skull and pulls the body out of the birth canal.

People who believe as you do, that "a fetus is an actual living person from the moment of conception" are not required to have an abortion by people who believe otherwise, but people who believe that want to force women who don't agree not to have an abortion.
