Should alcohol consumption (and sale) be restricted and only sold from 7am to 1030pm daily?

This is already done in Singapore where the consumption of alcohol outside of legal bars, clubs and private residence is restricted after 1030pm. Convenience stores and supermarkets are not allowed to sell alcohol to ANYONE after 1030pm. This lowers the risk of one getting into a drunken stupor and causing unnecessary trouble. After the clock strikes 10:30, patrons at drinking establishments will also be unable to take away (bring home) any left-over bottles of alcohol.

Do you think this is a good system that should be adopted everywhere?

Singapore is known to be a ''law-and-order'' place.

Too ''controlling'' for my own taste.

''Here'' in Thailand it's similarly grotesque: booze sales are only from 11 - 14 hrs. - and from 17 - 24 hrs. ... so you stock up at home, and you don't care what some government tries to ''achieve''.

Rules like this assume that a population is unable to do the right thing out of themselves.

@Guy13 - Southern Chon Buri, and Rayong (work wise). Yes - Pattaya is close to me, but the only thing I like there are some supermarkets that sell what is hard to get here :D // I'm also familiar with Had Yai - or rather Satun - which is a very nice area to be, too. Spent one year in Bangkok, and HATED it. Lost one year on Koh Chang (a pretty place, but too greedy and corrupt).
In addition: I never CHOSE T'land as a home... it just happened :) But my ''house'' was indeed chosen: to be away from tourists. Heh heh

@Guy13 - My profession is closely related to the sea. So Chiang Mai - or even Isahn - is very unpractical to me.
I'm an avid sports sailor; so of course Samui says something to me. But, similar to Phuket, there are too many foreigners around to find my liking (I don't like ''us'' too much). I might go there for the annual regatta, if they organize it again. /// You seem to be familiar with T'land... what makes YOU smile? :)

The Russian mobbed areas and the weekend EuroTrash and all the nastiness that go on in those Phuket areas bothers me. Samui, last time I was there, was rated PG tourist.
Hitting Sofitel for 5 days beach area is nice. The seafood, oil, and agriculture down South, along with Malaysia spill over car bombs etc is interest. I prefer high places tropical jungles, rural, and quaint Chiangmai. It’s kind of like living in China though…. Next 10 years, all of Thailand will be occupied officially by China. The whole SE region…

@Guy13 - yes: ''China'' is buying itself heavily into 'here'. But they do so in many other places as well. And they seldom keep their promises. Local corruption and greed helps them. For now.
But China is built of deceit and quick profit ( similar to the U. S., but THEY still have at least SOME sense of 'honour' - Winnie the Pooh has not).
Russians - I met a few, and they aren't better or worse than anyone else :)

@Guy13 Cambodia ALSO sold so much sand to Singapore (land reclaims and concrete making) that now their river banks have problems. Its not just ONE country that causes problems.

I think that is a great idea but it will never happen as that would be curtailing private business. I do not believe in doing that so the hours can not be mandatory forced upon independent Business people.
