Could be the manager is just following orders. Best talk to whoever is above him and alongside him.

Also, it could be you were all too "laid back" and the company put a stop to it.

Hence, you got the manager you deserved.

It would really depend on the pay and benefits. I'd ask myself if they pay me enough to deal with it.
