Its rather difficult to raise a family right without someone at home to help raise the kids all the time. It use to be for millions of year we had whole families including grandparents for this task. Women didn't start leaving their children on a large scale until after the 1960s.
What happened to each generation of children after first their grandparents in the 30s (thanks to Social Security) then their own mothers (due to women joining the out of home work force) abandoned them?
They became more and more unstable and less able to function leading to where they are today. Parenting is important.
Lets not forget its not like we all had a choice, each of theses changes were driven by changes in Federal policy enabling, encouraging, and driving theses changes like Social security and inflationary welfare spending.
Even the broken poor family was a direct result of distant goverment paying mothers more to be single than to be married to the father. Effectively breaking the poor family making them even poorer in the long run.
We were forced by federal politicians to pay an enormous amount of money for the destruction our civilization in the last century.
Millions of years? Thousands yes. Homo sapiens sapiens has around 300 thousands years, most of them we were nomads, always from place to place. And in that time, on our most natural, women did gathered food outside of the house just like the men did.
Women can still chose to be at home. But that is just it, it's a choice now. By the time women were legally allowed to divorce, their suicide rate went down by 20%.
This is nothing to do with the government paying mother's, is about what people want. What makes them happy.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 Where do you think those children were being raised for millions of years? The women and elderly of the largely related family group took care of them.
actually Homo Sapiens probably evolved as little as 200 thousand years ago, but that fact is hardly relevant as we were living like this for far longer. Indeed I probably could have said many millions of years.
By everyone. Do you really think men and women were out all the time hunting and gathering? Of course not. Literally every animal in the wild, including apes, stay at home with their young most of the time. Males and females.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 Few species are able to afford both parents staying home, we humans were likely not among them. That said we did live in largely related hunter-gather groups that would have enabled 1 parent to remain behind most all of the time. This is akin to the full family and a stay at home mother.
Didn't you read what I said before? Most parents are home most of the time. Sure on occasion on eleaves to hunt and the other stays. But MOST of the time both are at home. Apes like us included.
If both parents are home most of the time than what is the point here? That parents should be with their children more? Sure I agree. Parenting leave should be the same for men and women and the best countries in the world to live in have that.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 Do you think modern women are 'happy"?
@KrakenAttackin more than they were for sure.
I don't care what people choose to do. They just need to find a compatible partner who shares the same preferences. There is no right or wrong.
I'm fully in favor of women having the opportunity to pursue their dreams, whether those be having careers or being stay-at-home moms.
I always liked independent women who supported themselves and weren't waiting for some guy to save them. My wife had been doing so since high school and had done very well for herself. She's a real go getter who also has fun at what she does.
As a wife, she's a good cook and home maker and I do my share. But her income is also really handy. Our combined incomes made it possible for us to build the life we have together. She also brings in quite a bit of untraceable cash, which is nice.
About five years ago or so, we found a young lady who does housework. She's also our mail carrier. She comes over every two or three weeks to work for 2.5 to 3 hours each time. The girl is a whirlwind. And it only costs us $50 or $60 a pop unless she does something extra like taking our trash to the dump on her way home. (We live in a rural area and didn't sign up for garbage service. It's expensive and taking our cans down our 1/2 mile long driveway to the pick up point is as much hassle as taking our trash to the dump every few months.) She's a god send. She appreciates being paid with cash.
My wife and I love not having to clean bathrooms, sweep, mop floors, vacuum, dust, or scrub. The girl will even shampoos our carpet and washes windows inside and out if we ask (like maybe once a year).
So my wife would rather work and spend an average of less than $750 per year on a housekeeper than to do all that tedious stuff herself. I sure don't want to do that stuff if I can avoid it. And our housekeeper benefits from the income.
I read in an article the average woman wants to be a housewife but works since she does not have the option of being a house wife. Her husband might divorce her and leave her with nothing or he might not make enough to support the family with his single pay cheque. I want to earn money at a job I love and not a job I hate. Like selling poetry or music or babysitting or dog walking or baking or getting a degree in therapy because I like to deal with even very difficult people.
I think women should live the life they want. If they want to work, work! If they want to be a housewife, be a housewife! Unfortunately I feel like it is more difficult for women to choose nowadays due to the high cost of living.
I personally want to work at the moment, but that doesn’t mean every woman wants to

Women should do what they want to do.
I'd prefer she works at first and once we have our first kid she can stay home until all of our kids are school age. Then she can work part time or full time as long as she has a job that lets her be home on the weekends and she is home at night too. If she works, she needs to contribute financially. So the more she works, the more she pays for our household. If she works full time we would split the household chores, but if she works part time she can do most of it and if she doesn't work she can do everything at home since even then it is much less work than a full time job.
If she claims that doing the household chores is equal to or more work than a full time job, I would do everything for one month while taking note of how long each activity ACTUALLY takes to complete. Then when I prove how much less time it takes to do all of the household chores, including all of the outside chores, from then on she can do all of it or get out of my house. I won't stand for unfair lies about the amount of work someone does/contributes.
@HighValue
What if you have a child that needs a lot of medical attention?
I think mothers should stay at home unless it creates undue economic stress.
I also think it’s important for people to recognize that the idea of women staying home, largely refers to middle class and upper class women. Working-class women largely couldn’t stay home because it was economically unrealistic.
Upper class women are more physically attractive anyway
This is like asking if women should win gold medals at the Olympics. Not all women are cut out/deserve to be elevated to the position of housewife or to even be a wife. Some of them should be worked like dogs.. pushing 60+ hours a week and barely able to pay rent because that's all they bothered to make their lives about.
If a woman wants anything traditional (benefits) from a guy then she should be traditional herself. Some guys get this... others do not.
The idea of a family has been completely destroyed going back further than the 50's.
The idea of a nuclear family is a pretty recent invention. Even that being the case, the idea of how a nuclear families operations has also been muted well before the 1920's. We're living in a completely mutated world, but when a fish was born in murky waters, it knows no better.
Kind regards,
DoctorSex
I’m the last option it depends. The same as I don’t even judge someone who lives with their parents.
As long as there is a give and take a and both are happy. Then good! As long as people agree on it.
Standards for dating and marriage vairy. There isn’t something wrong with someone because they aren’t right. That’s why you date.
Personally. I don’t want just a housewife. But never say never. Who knows.
"Personally. I don’t want just a housewife." I bet you don't feel comfortable financially. If you had a significantly higher income and steady situation you would probably change your mind.
Families that even want to just can't. A single average income cannot sustain a household.
Families should be able to do what they want on This matter but they can't do either. We can't afford a single income family while simultaneously not being able to afford childcare going to work.
The economic reality is that, unless a family is very wealthy and secure in that wealth, both spouses need to work so the family can survive an economic disaster.
It's just that simple and you have no choice in the matter.
I could see this coming 40+ years ago which is a major reason why I chose no to have children.
If she's single then she can do whatever she wants. If she's with a partner, they have to communicate and find what is best for them. Scientifically and biologically speaking, couples are happiest and most efficient when they follow their natural gender roles. Men like to work and be the breadwinners, women like to be with the kids and take care of the house. If it works for them, great. If it doesn't, they need to find another strategy or break up.
i wanna work bit there's just something appealing and hot when i am being provided. i wanna be both because i wanna be hands-on eith the kids but i don't think i'll be fulfilled so i also wanna work but i wanna the husband to pay for my meals i also pay for his meals but i want him to be the ine who primarily do that. it's just hot
I'm a firm believer of true equality, man, woman, child, regardless of what you do in life, if you do something wrong, you got to face the consequences of your actions, with that said, I have no opinion on either, whether they work or whether they want to be a housewife, that's their decision, whatever makes them happy, I guess.
First of all women have always worked throughout history like men, so this idea women didn't work and were at home all day is a myth.
Second of all its literally a economic impossibly for most men to support a whole household in accordance to the 21th century living standards i. e. mortgage, light bill, water bill etc.
Thirdly, being a full time housewife is literally a waste of life and talent a woman can have being at home 24/7 like it's a prison.
And I can add all the cons a woman can face if she doesn't have her own money and depends on someone else as an adult to feed, clothe and put a roof over her head if things go sour for her.
I think it is a personal decision based on what the couple wants and can afford, I do think there might be less problems if it was more common, but I don't think anybody should force people to live how they do not want to live!
It was a simpler time when men went to work and women stayed home to take care of the house and kids, but I don't think we're ever going to return to that. If a couple wants that, fine with me; if they don't, that's also fine.
I don't really care/results.
Just be a good person and not a piece of sh*t with an OnlyFans account who thinks polyamory/adultery should be socially acceptable.
Yes of course it would be nice to be a traditional housewife, however very sadly this is the 21st century where things and traditions have greatly changed beyond recognition.
They should do whatever they want, it's just hypocritical when some want men to be traditional when it benefits them when they don't live up to traditional values themselves.
Mothers should put men in chastity belts from the age of 7 and up and pass the key along to whichever woman decides to take possession of the male chattel. When he's old enough to work, the Female should decide on his profession based on whichever criteria She chooses, and send him to learn it, and then work. She is free to do whatever She wants. As a by-product, the world will be much more peaceful.
Whatever works for the relationship/family. If I could I would have no problems staying home to look after my baby, I really don't want to leave her with strangers.
It's their choice. Feminism is about letting people make their own decision. I just wish men and women would stop wasting each other's time based on what they think should be, instead of what they want in a good partner.
Women should have the choice to do what's best for them and their family. I personally feel that life is more harmonious when two people have defined roles.
I don't care what other women do but I prefer being a stay at home mom so I can raise my kids and take care of my home
Women should be whatever the hell they want to be. Nothing good comes from trying to force people into lifestyle roles that they don’t want.
I think times have changed, in a family wife and husband should help themselve, also by doing household work.
I will never keep a housewife. The only way I could keep a housewife is if she let me hit her.
@misogynistic_pig
So for a woman to be a housewife to you she has to allow you to physically abuse her. That is scary. Your screen name is fitting for your gutter slime self.
My life doesn't revolve around men. Why is a woman’s every move dependent on what would benefit a man? Why do I have to life my life according to how it could make a man happy?
No, I don’t know why people try to make cooking and cleaning synonymous with being a woman
Sure, what's the average salary for a housewife?
Let's just keep women in barns and then the men can come pick out the ones they like 🙄
Barns? We’re talking about people not farm animals
That lifestyle is now largely impossible given how wages have stagnated since the 70’s. Hooray for feminism. Instead of one person being able to support a family on their job it now takes two.
Isn’t equality grand?
I don't know if very many couples could afford that lifestyle where one parent stays home.
Much as some men want to, they are never going to turn the clock back to the 20s-50s, and they will never find virgins to marry - just women who will lie to them about it.
@KrakenAttackin Sanity is almost never really restored...
@KrakenAttackin A good point - we can hope, I guess.
I think each relationship should be handled how the 2 people involved wants it to play out
Cost of living is too expensive in most places for a woman to be a housewife
They can do whatever they want to do they have their own free will I don’t make any demands I support them
It would be nice for a man to cook for me also
Everyone can learn to cook :) it’s a good skill
Depends on your own relationship and what you guys decide you want to do mutually, I’m just meaning cooking in general is a good skill to have haha what if you’re on your own? Or want to cook dinner as a treat for her sometime? It’s just a useful thing to know!
That’s got to be expensive 😬 cooking yourself food is rewarding, can be healthy and cheaper but to each their own!
As for me, it will depend on what she likes to do and she has a freedom to do her goals. I don't mind providing for a family and giving their needs.
D: they should agree with their partners what things need to be done by whom.
Women should do what they want to do but they need to realize there are consequences for decisions.
Lol. All these women that will fck and sleep around in their 20’s and complain they’re still single in their 40’s because no man wants them
@WhiteBoyChill True enough.
@WhiteBoyChill
What about the guys that go around having sex with multiple women and end up getting one or more pregnant then doesn't want to help raise the child?
The women in my family in the last three generations have never been housewives; they have always worked.
would be fewer jeffery dahlmers running around
Women, like men, should follow their dreams and desires.
Individuals should do what works for them and their partners.
They can do whatever is best for them and their families and every one else can mind their own business for once
Housewives? Many don’t want to get married, or are better at doing other things.
Mines a house wife and wears a 1950's apron like that too. It's usually the only thing she wears.
People should do whatever they want.
People should do what they want
I need money, it keeps me alive, so I work.
I think people should do what they want to do.
No that’s impossible in today’s world.
people who voted A are morons
shouldn't ever be one or the other
Yes its their natural role
Screw that. housewives aren't for me.
