Some places make suicide illegal, what can they do to punish someone who sucessfull commits suicide?

Nothing, a dead person can't be punished.

Making it illegal is largely a statement of disaproval that gives the state the authority to prevent suicide, by controlling people who threatening it with forms of imprisonment.

Which is just as dumb in concept as trying to punish the dead, because a suicidal person is going to feel much worse if you do that to them, so the risk just increases.

It's best to just help people when life shits on them for suicide prevention.

You can't punish someone who is dead. But you can make other things illegal. For example, committing suicide usually invalidates life insurance policies.
