Is there death penalty in the USA?

The death penalty continues to be implemented in some countries today. I know one of these countries is the USA. Is there really the death penalty in the USA? As far as I know, there are execution is only carried out by electric chair.

Yes there is a federal death penalty for certain federal crimes. Many states have the death penalty as well, though manner of execution is more often lethal injection.

yes, the USA is up there with such shining examples of human rights as Iran, Somalia, China, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan...
We also have a much higher violent crime rate than Europe, Australia, New Zealand who don't have the DP

In other words, it is difficult to say anything definitive about whether states that implement the death penalty more or less will be safe. The real solution to this is to prevent people from committing crimes. In other words, providing social education ensures peace in a country. Of course, there will always be those who commit crimes. But they should not escape punishment either.

Why? The state is responsible for protecting people's lives. If someone harms citizens, state must take his/her life. Otherwise, what good would the police and military organizations do?

No one and nothing should voluntarily take a life when other options remain. It's barbaric, cruel and irreversible. There is no crime that merits the death penalty. I would not have hung the NAZIs at Nuremberg.
