Does the Death Penalty cause crime?

Murder is higher in death penalty states than nons. Doesn’t mean it’s causation. But the culture of a death penalty state may be the cause.

The Chinese execute about 4,000 people per year, and it's fair to say crime is not rampant in most Chinese cities.

When there is lots of crime certain people will immedeatly call for harsher punishments.

The culture of a population determines how many convicts are put to death.

so without a death penalty convicts would commit more murder because there is no death penalty. okay. i got it. i suppose that would change things

Your stats are interesting but you haven't shown a causative link. My own opinion is that states with the death penalty are more regressive, therefore likely to have a higher crime rate.
