Much of "science" is incredibly political. Anything government funded is also government controlled - if "science" doesn't deliver what the government wants, funding will be cut and people will be out of a (very cushy) job. Try to imagine a Sheldon Cooper having to work a job outside of the bubble of a university - that would be a disaster. Those scientists are only too well aware that their jobs and way of life is on the line, so they comply.
I especially question conclusions when we're dealing with something completely new, when lots of contradictory information is coming in and it's clearly being cherry-picked to support a narrative.
I did before things got so politicized. And not just by my own speculation, scientists came out saying that the politicization of science has caused many scientists to not be open and honest about their scientific observations in fear of social and political backlash that would inevitably impact their operations, funding, etc.

When politics meets science, politics wins! That happens because science depends on funding from the government and its agencies (such as NIH) to pay people and fund their research. Research that is not helpful morphs into no money for science.
It’s not like universities with billion dollar endowments can do any of their own research or anything like that…
@Sixgunsound Of course they can. They'd simply rather suck that government tit.
That government tit purchases the loyalty of academia. It’s not exactly a secret.
@Sixgunsound Quite obvious to some of us!
When I graduated high school, my first try at university I wanted to teach socialist studies. That year began the pilot program for that universities relationship with the Chinese government and mutual development of smart bandages for the Chinese military. Our military would have to purchase them at retail. Although who am I kidding merchants don’t sell to the military retail they market up at least 300 to 400%!
One of the fundamental aspects of scientific inquiry is the scientific method, where you put forth a claim or observation, create a test scenario, observe and then document the findings. What you don't do is assert a conclusion as "obviously true", without testing its validity, and then ban the act of falsification. That is not science, that is dogma.
"Trust the science" is no different than "have faith". Right now, the Far Left is a living contradiction: on the one hand, they desire the West to be bastion of science and progress, unrestrained by religious traditions and orthodoxy--because such systems are not testable or repeatable, yet faithful are expected to live their lives as if said claims have merit, basically "just because". On the other hand, the Far Left shows outright contempt against any desire to test their ideological suppositions, instead acting as if their methods are beyond reproach and to be taken as gospel--literally the very thing they are against, if it were done in a religious context--and then having the nerve to claim the very act of asking is itself evidence of some kind of deep-seated, irredeemable sin.
In many ways, Nietzsche was right when he said "God is dead and we killed him". The state is, apparently, our god now.
Science is like this.
Its fact, indisputable hard cannot change.
Later, new info came up, it changed... it is evolving, it is how it works.
Religion is like this.
Guidance from god says this, we cannot change it.
Later, god gave us new direction, it changed... he is always changing things to meet current situations.
Science is basically a religion. Where people who are hard core into it treat theories as fact and hypothesizes as theories.
Then you add politics into it, like climate change and it gets bad.
I ask the question all the time, we know climate change is partially man made and we know its happened naturally, so who has evidence to show exactly how much is made by human kind? is it 10% or 35%.
No one cares, the left wants to treat it like 100% man made without any evidence.
No I don't trust it in some things, but I do in other things.
@AndrésC64 Try to understand, that asking someone to look up something for them, when they are capable of doing it themselves, is what a internet troll does to bait and setup a trap.
No matter what I send, you'll find ways to say why it is not valid, then I'll find it somewhere else and rinse and repeat, after about 10 times later we tell each other to fuck off and we block each other.
So look it up yourself, I won't do it for you.
Democrats have told me to my FACE that is what they want. Along with $10 dollar a gallon gasoline to force people to take the bus.
When I point out, there is no mass transit in Rural America, they say that is not their problem, that is mine because I choose to live here and I should move to a overly expensive city that I can't afford or die.
Churches change all the time, 10-15 years ago many were excommunicating gays, even if they were not acting on it. Now some are saying, it is okay to be gay as long as you are not acting on it.
Depends on religion though.
If you want to stay civil, then we are now done, or if you like we can block each other, your choice.
@AndrésC64 Goodbye, internet troll... you are being blocked.
You are correct that the left wants to hear that 100% of the change is man made but you did not state the opposite. The right wants to hear that the change was happening by itself and that man has had no effect on the change.
Truth of the matter is that the change was naturally occurring and that nature was slowly losing the battle to maintain the balance. We have influenced the speed of change. But as you say, no money in that.
Not until i know who’s paying for the “science” and who stands to get rich and/or powerful as a result of it. Then only sometimes. Properly peer reviewed and published scientific research is actually pretty easy to find. The problem is actually that TOO MANY people “trust the science”. These idiots will talk a ton of shit about religion but literally believe ANYTHING someone in a lab coat says aloud on camera with ZERO supporting evidence! Ell oh ell! I’ve never seen more blind faith in my lifetime and all this from the “educated”. Ha!
People with letters after their name who slavishly follow political science they agree with do not deserve those letters.
Because religion has been proven wrong over and over and over and over again.
So has science. Very little of what was “scientifically proven” a century ago stands as fact or prevailing theory today. Grow up.
That is laughable. I am sorry, but is. Do you even know what a scientific theory is?
It doesn't have the same meaning a general theory has.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 politicians certainly don’t, but they still crank up their propaganda mills as though they do.
@Sixgunsound politicians say what they believe and what they must. Science says what the evidences point to.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 so long as that evidence agrees with the government grant. Let’s not mince words if we’re both in academia.
Laugh all you want. I’m not wrong. If you really understood science, you’d know that too.
Sixgunsound isn’t wrong either. The people with the money control everything, including what research is available and what results we have access to. The government also manipulates information in order to maintain the status quo. If you don’t know where to look for and how to read peer reviewed, approved and published empirical research then you’re stuck with what those people and organizations permit you to have. And THAT is most US citizens.
www.sott.net/.../237064-GMO-Researchers-Attacked-Evidence-Denied-and-a-Population-at-Risk
Free databases provided by a government are immediately suspect. Multiple government censors reading government funded data does not constitute peer review.
@Sixgunsound then that is not science is it?
Also what proper evidences do you have that all science is controlled?
Is the theory of gravity controlled by the government? That's what flat earths think.
Conspiracy theories lead to all kinds of nonsensical beliefs.
@Chazmatazz269 do you even know what a scientific theory is? Is not the same that a general theory. I also know very well what the scientific method is.
Just know that the person that doesn't believe without reason, is a big of a fool as the one that does.
We already covered this. I do. Clearly you do not. You’re an idiot. Your input is no longer useful. Find your way off my posts or be blocked.
I do know. And I find it odd that someone that does know refers to professionals in their fields as "the educated".
Specially after saying that many people talk badly about religion. Considering religion is literally believing based on faith and not facts.
The thing is, it's not really a question of "do you trust science" and more of a "do you trust the conclusion I've made from the papers which have been published on this topic?"
Next time you read an article that makes a big claim about abortions or consciousness or some kind of statistics based claim, find the paper their citing and read through it a bit.
Sometimes the synopsis alone is enough to realize the article writer never read the paper. Or it turns out the way the scientists reached their conclusion was half baked or their evidence might have been circumstantial.
Very rarely can you use one single paper to prove a point.

They made their money... that's all I saw. For many, it became mandatory for them to make that money.
@AndrésC64 WTF are you babbling about? That was so short and sweet and it still went over your head?
Yes and No. Obviously, big money can influence what's published as science. I certainly don't trust the FDA. The only thing I trust less than Democrat bullshit is Republican bullshit when it comes to science. Only a Republican, like Todd Akin, would try and continue to push the "no pregnancy from rape" theory bullshit in the 21st century. Unbelievable.
What about Democrats not knowing what a woman is and telling people to ask a biologist?
@bingbongbangbung How is the fact that a few fringies entertain that nonsense relevant to science? Do you know what a woman is, according to biologists today?
@AndrésC64 Nice to know you're getting some good information from following me, yet I don't hear an answer from you, nor do I see evidence to the contrary, from you. Those of you who get your stats from social media will believe anything. Can you answer the question - Do you know what a woman is, according to biologists today?
that was hillarious, painful, and frightening, but believable. People just want to hear what they already agree with... simple as that. science is about challenging beliefs to find what is true. good luck to that when there is money on the line and deeply held emotional beliefs.
nope... but some of it I believe enough. yea... we are in global warming and we should take action. What action that is is up for debate what will benefit...
I personally witnessed how government funding went to climate scientists who produced work supporting the most radical anthropogenic global warming simulations and was cut from those who did not. The “scientific consensus” was politically manufactured.
@AndrésC64 I’m not providing a citation of my personal experience so as to remain anonymous.
not always.
It kind of depends on if there is an agenda, what it is.
Over the course of history science has been proven wrong time and time again.
What was once ok, is now a late night tv ad for Dewy Cheatum & Howe, if you ate, touched, contacted... You may have money coming to you, as your left arm falls off.
@AndrésC64 yes it does, go back into history and see all that science said was good, or good for you, and now, oopps, now it has been proven that it was so good or good for you.
It had nothing to do with politics.
I'm sure if you live long enough you will find that there are things today that science said were fine, and 20 years from now they were wrong and now they are not good for you.
What about when even the scientists can't agree with each other, who is right then.
While that may occasionally happen, do you know how it gets solved and found out? By other scientists doing science. Not some Hocus Pocus based on a religious book. Yes there are dishonest people of all types irreligious and religious. Again, it has absolutely nothing to do with the science and the process. People are dishonest, science isn't.
And when scientists disagree on what the data says, then we can't make any conclusion. We do more science until we can.
"trusting the science" is bullshit. science is supposed to be scrutinized and criticized. especially in the context of politically or privately financed researched or research financed by think tanks and ngos. in a perfect world, science is unbiased but in the real world that we live in, scientists have to make a livnig and that means that you gotta do profitable research, not "truth based" research.
Left doesn't believe in science themselves. They reprove Darwin's evolution theory, just because it says there are two genders.
https://lawrencekrauss.substack.com/p/darwin-cancelled-in-a-french-university
That is stupid for many reasons. One of them being that gender and sex are not the same thing.
Sex is a biological concept, gender isn't.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 Not really. You have XX chromosomes and XY chromosomes.
So yeah, it is biological.
That is sex. Not gender. They are different concepts. One is biological the other is social.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 Sex is when a man's penis enter woman's vagina.
Go see a biology book and look for the definition. It's probably the one you give gender.
And gender is something else, like I said it's social.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 That's the definition they have in Great Britain. But not all countries have the same.
In my country we just have "płeć". There's no such thing as "social gender"
This is not regarding a single county. Science is global. It doesn't change from one place to the other.
And biology deal with sex. Not with gender.
Do you think they are the same? Doesn't change the fact that biology disagrees.
@AndrésC64 yes it would. Evolution is literally the most proven theory ever.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 "And biology deal with sex. Not with gender.
Do you think they are the same? Doesn't change the fact that biology disagrees."
You just contradicted yourself.
That's what I get for not using proper phrasing.
Let me rewrite it.
And biology deal with sex. Not with gender.
You think they are the same, but that doesn't change the fact that biology disagrees.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 Biology clearly deals with sex. That's how babies are made
With sex yes, not with gender.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 Not really. Cambridge doctionary only defines it as "A state of being a male or a female". It doesn't say it's not about biology.
I searched for it too. Here it is...
"either of the two sexes (male and female), especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones."
I repeat my favorite part...
"especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones."
Again...
"rather than biological ones."
Do you want the one on the WHO too? Go check it. Makes perfect distinction between sex and gender too.
@This_Is_My_Opinion8 WHO is politicised, so I wouldn't rely on it.
WHO says you shouldn't eat red meat, because it causes cancer.
It's literally the world health organization!!!
I give up. Conspiracy theory americans are just everywhere here.
People who end up defying science think the world is flat and some magical guy created the world in 7 days so... go figure. And I can assure you watching a video of some right wing complaining about left wing gives you 0 useful information because at the end of the day that's all bias.
So you would get mad at einstein for daring to challenge newton about gravity... but newton was wrong.
“Is there a tax I can pay to make COVID-19 just completely go away, or does that only work on global warming“🤣🤣🤣
''Trust the science'' that has a leftist agenda. The moment some scientists disagree and say the opposite of the narrative the left tries to burry those scientists.
Exactly.
Pbs does have BOTH SIDES warming is not real or real, , but google searches won't SHOW you unless i type the actual url address page of pbs!
Science is a tool, not a truth generating magic. It is dependent on how you use it.
Today science is worshipped, even Carl Sagan was concerned regarding it back then.
Paul Feyerabend has stated that science is like a toolkit, you will never know what you might need. So anything can happen, there is no scientific methodology, if you have scientific methodology it is against the spirit of science.
Yes. I accept that sometimes total bollocks gets published on both sides of an argument but if you weigh it up based on quality not bias you get close to the truth.
The fucking science isn't even out yet, the research hasn't even been finished. The nature of science is to question and test again and again, not just blindly accept theories as absolute truths. Fuck all those scared sheep
If it comes from the left it's typically nonsense. There is always an agenda or desire to scare and manipulate.
Scientific studies and proffessors science in college have to align to fit the current political agenda.
They get threatened. It seems i am the only one, who won't lose my career so i can show the warming is not "global".
the severe storms LESSENED in severity n some websites list the most severe but don't dare specify recent severe ones are LESS severe!
Using the actual SCIENTIFIC METHOD, it actually disproves a lot of what the democrat "scientists" claim.
You don't need to trust science.
You use science to prove or disprove things.
Thats why it's science and not faith.
Not when many scientists are bought and paid for by political activism and big corporations
@bingbongbangbung Those are people, not science.
Science is useful because it means we don't have to rely on trusting people (even scientists), instead we verify a claim as true or false via the scientific method. It's what peer review is, other people trying to replicate a claimed study to see if its true.
Now you may not have the time or knowledge to review any or all of it yourself, but the method is still valid either way.
I do trust science. I don't trust democrats.
Science can be trusted.
Not sure about SCIENTISTS :)
I did until 2020, when I realized that “science” is full of corrupt, easily bought sycophants.
I trust that the peer review process generally catches most inaccuracies and biases.
Doesn't peer review process approve of pro pedo articles
Some theories we regard as fact now used to be dismissed as fake by many peers, such as tectonic plates and gravitational waves
The peer review process is the system by which scientific articles are first reviewed by annonymous competitors in the field, basically to check for a lack of novelty or errors in logic. They have no incentive to approve a paper without being very sure it is sound. I don't know what weird podcast told you it has anything to do with pedos, but you should speculate on what else they might have lied to you about.
I do. But that means ACTUAL science. Which is NEVER determined by consensus. It also doesn't need censorship to protect it.
So yeah--science!
I'm don't have time to watch that, as so many videos like that are complete nonsense. Can you summarize it? Is the author talking about physical science, or social science?
I used to trust the scientific method but it's pretty clear the scientific community along the medical community is compromised right now.
No. Because science is always changing when science and politics meet!
Only if its something politics doesn't meddle in.
I can trust science to a certain extent. If it's free and independent from politics I can trust it more. But also depends on the scientist.
Science will eventually blame the rapture on something like an alien abduction. Lmao
I go with the Science Channel motto; "Question Everything"
OF COURSE, I trust science - I'm a scientist. You all go ahead and base your healthcare on what the "youtube doctors" tell you. Good luck, morons.
I trust that which can be reasonably verified.
Not trusting science is the worst thing we can do as a society.
Please never stop trusting scientists just because of your worldview or political leaning.
Tell that to einstein! He should have trusted science about gravity... you say. But not "defy newton" to made up general relativity! Haha
Depends on what kind of science, but mostly yes.
The left’ ‘science’ is lies.
Nope, not any more.
Real science i do. Not their science.
The science about Covid was wrong
Science is the ONLY thing I trust.
