Was my state joking or was the voting office lazy?

My state has a law that makes early voting illegal unless you have a justifiable reason you can't do it on voting day.

For example, my mom is getting knee surgery soon and I will need to stay home to help her during recovery. Therefore I can't go and vote on voting day.

Likewise my mom can't either. To still be able to vote we did so two days ago. We showed up at the county office with all necessary documents.

There was nothing they asked us about why we were seeking to vote early. They asked if we were registering to vote or voting. That was it, they didn't care why we decided to do it early.

maybe in your particular state or area is heavily leaned to one side only, so the votes do not matter that much really

or maybe they have been working there for years, so they have the experience and they saw you and everyone there like all the other times they've had people coming with all the documents on rule and actual valid reasons to do such paperwork... familiarity

I don't recall ever being there before. It isn't the place we typically vote.

Only insofar as I was there to vote earlier than the official voting day.

what I meant to say is that... they must be quite familiar with their job, and you just brought the same papers that they have seen many times before, so they really didn't have any valid reason to not trust you

when you have to verify many people's cases a day, every single day... it is just much simple and easier to look at the ONE thing that could indicate something is wrong, rather than verify the multiple papers that indicate is all in rule, so...

if they see no bad sign, they just go with it way quicker

That’s a good question. Maybe they didn’t get into the weeds be side you seemed prepared. Or maybe they just don’t enforce the law
