Should Alaskan Refuge be opened up for oil drilling?

We have oil supply issues right now which is feeding inflation. Gas prices are going up, diesel is short on supply. There's a large war going on with no end in sight (Ukraine) and to top it off... we are drawing from Strategic Petroleum Reserves which cannot be sustained for long.

Heating your home is going to be so expensive this year the govt (USA) just dished out several billion to low income people so they can keep the heat on. If you are a working stiff that pays taxes, well, too bad, gonna have to turn the thermostat down or pay the bill.

Should USA be pumping more oil for the forseeable future?

Oh yea, don't forget about the environment...

p. s. yes I know the current government wants high oil, they won't open it up, etc.. This all fits into their view of pushing the country off oil.

Probably not, no; it'd alleviate the current crisis, but wouldn't solve anything in the long term. We NEED better development of our domestic energy grid, and the smart decision would be to diversify it, so we're covered if things get rough with any one particular source. If you want a LONG-TERM solution and are willing to violate standing environmental protection laws to do it, there's a WAY better option that we're sitting right on top of, one that, if tapped completely, could meet the current energy needs (and that's ENERGY NEEDS, not just electrical ones) of all of humanity: Yellowstone. Start slapping down geothermal generators to harvest the power of that massive supervolcano, and watch as the crisis disappears before your eyes.

Of course, that'd not only mean violating a national park, and probably destroying several unique and irreplaceable geological features, it'd cause a massive drop in the price of oil, so you'd have Big Oil and Big Environmental AND the rest of the environmentalist movement working against you; it'll never happen.

It’s funny you mention this, because Trump tried to open the Arctic to drilling after Obama closed it off permanently.

Oddly the courts ruled it was legal for Obama to stop all new Arctic drilling in perpetuity...

... but illegal for Trump to start new drilling.

I don't think they need to open that, but I am all for more drilling and more domestic oil production. There is plenty of other places that can be opened up.

What needs to be looked at is why are oil companies like shell now reporting record-breaking profits. If there was an oil shortage governments would have bought in rationing.
