In an age when both mainstream media and social media giants have common goals and manufacture the appearance of consensus by deluging people with one narrative while blocking and censoring other points of view, it's not difficult to understand why so many people are clueless. They don't even know what questions to ask, let alone where to find answers.

What IS unforgivable is, when people are presented with alternate information but flat out reject it because it doesn't conform to the narrative that they have been force fed.

I'm continually surprised by people who think they know all there is to know on a subject and refuse to consider the possibility that there is more to know. They're threatened by anything that questions the manufactured consensus.

I can't understand what's wrong with asking common sense questions and doing research. But a lot of people have been programmed resist doing so.

No way 9f knowing because education system sucks. The ability to filter the bull shit from fact has been degraded. Bullshit has been pumped into our youths from a very young age so they're clues less. I am Gen-X guy, been raised in analog era, but been an adult most of the digital era, and I am relic at 46 and have no say or impact on the programing of our youths through social media. I have been silenenced.

So fuck I don't know. I am just trying to hang on and die with dignity. That seems the best to hope for at this piont.

I've never liked the idea that they can have incorrect information as a headline, then later on post a correction that is tiny and hard to find somewhere.

I've always though the law should say it has to be the same. If the incorrect information is posted as a headline, the correction needs to be given the same amount of time and space.

If the incorrect information is some tiny hard to find back page, then the correction can be too.

Makes it too easy for main stream media to flat out lie, then later on post a correction to meet the current law... knowing full well they accomplished what they were looking for.

I say media because that is where most get their information, even if someone manages to find it on their own (big if) they'll be alone and isolated and made fun by the others who believe main stream media.

Anyone and everyone spreading incomplete, inaccurate or outright false information is responsible. Most people don’t get a quality education. They don’t know where to look for quality information even if that’s what they really want. They don’t know how to challenge information they already have, even if they were so inclined. Beyond that, most people don’t want quality information and they never challenge what they think they already know. People would much rather feel right, emphasis on the “feel”. So if they seek out information at all, they seek confirmation of what they likely decided before they sought said information. Confirmation bias and echo chambers, that’s what people want these days. Everyone thinks their feelings equate to facts. And they’re all wrong.

You should never believe anything from the media, they have always just been interested in certain things like; controlling fear and making money. It is your responsibility to double check something you might say to others first in my pov.

Personally I think it's up to the individual to check the facts whoever's reporting to them especially on issues they're concerned with don't accept you know they said he said get names packs dates times just because I know how to set up a blog and webcam and talk s*** and a loud voice and laugh at everybody on the planet doesn't mean I know anything

The media. To be fair media has NEVER been completely unbiased. But there was a time when credibility meant something. Now even that can be bought with enough money. And while reporting may not be straight out bought with corporate funds it is highly influenced. They don't have to tell you to think. You'll do it on your own with a constant subtle narrative. And the avg. Joe CAN'T stay informed as much as he needs to to make THE BEST informed decision. Not working 40+ hrs a week to pay his overtaxation and rising debt. And they know it!

Both, most people usually won't care enough about a topic to research it deeply enough. Mainstream media is mainstream mostly because it's the first thing people see and so it's the first thing people believe.

A better question to ask is: “Why is there a need to mislead people?” Like why is this necessary at all? Why the need to steer peoples opinions?

Still the mainstream media, I think. They should be reporting the facts, but they'll paint policies that are desired by large majorities of both parties' voters (like raising the minimum wage, or a public option for health care) as extreme, simply because they would upset their advertisers.

when it comes down to the fountain of misinformation, its platforms like meta and twitter where if someone rebuts a false claim with actual facts, the rumor spreader will report the person stating actual facts followed by the facts being censored.
