How did we get from California banning gay marriage in 2008, to widespread public support for gay marriage everywhere? What made things change?

I mean I’ve always thought of California as being a very toxicly liberal state.

So I was very surprised to find out about California Proposition 8’s passage in 2008 which legally defined marriage as being exclusively between a man and woman. And voters even passed the same legislation (Proposition 22) 8 years ealier.

Fast forward just a few years later and every state in the country has gay marriage, pride flags and pride events are everywhere and the attitude of most people is “love is love”. As in they’re totally cool with gay people

I think that when enough people with similar views start to lobby and stand together, there is enough pressure to change political landscapes. Perhaps the internet and ability to rally support and network more easily online has helped the LGBT community to push their interests forward whereas previously it was more difficult to do so.

Well I heard for the longest time it was just “dont talk dont tell” when my Grandfather was growing up but then I guess people started coming out

The SCOTUS ruling that gay marriage bans were unconstitutional had a lot to do with it. Of course, we’ve gone from “we just want to get married” to “let’s cut your teen daughter’s tits off” in even less time.

There isn't wide spread support. There's a lot of money being pumped into woke stuff from the top. If you aren't woke you can't get a loan.
