Is it possible live in any EU country while working for another country outside of the EU (let's say Canada or USA)?

I'm Canadian. While I'm planning to find a job in Canada, I'm thinking about staying in a EU country for around 60 days every year. That is, to experience a whole new life. I'm not permanently staying in a European country though as most of the time spent will still be in Canada. However, I don't want to give up the chances of having a second home.

Yes, it's totally possible. You will be granted a EU residence permit that will be valid usually until further notice, as long as you live within a European country that is a member of the EU (not UK, Serbia, Russia, etc.). Alongside that, it depends on which country you are planning to stay in. For instance, if you want to stay in France, you have to learn French because most people are unable to respond to questions asked in English or are shy about it. This especially applies when you want government services or if you are going to restaurants or different shops. If you live in, let's say Netherlands or Denmark, you wouldn't have a problem speaking English.

You may choose to live in the country with a residence permit, but I strongly don't recommend it. Sure, for the first time, you may choose to stay for 60 days and then think like it's nothing at all, but overtime you will run into a lot of trouble. For instance, consider the following points:

• Many jobs in Canada require you to work in person and only let you travel for a limited amount of time. (for instance, many jobs only allow their employees to only take 2 weeks off per year, excluding teachers and certain business-related jobs.)
• If you live in an EU country of your choice for over a month, you will eventually have to learn the local language (unless you choose to live in Ireland, which I assume English is your mother tongue so you won't have trouble there), even if you are just booking a hotel or airbnb there. Suppose you choose to live in Germany. Sure, many local shop owners there can speak English with you. However, if they constantly see you in their shop over a period of 14 days or even longer, they will expect you to at least know some German since they think that you might be residing in Germany for long periods of time.
• Constantly staying for over a month eventually becomes an addiction, as a lot of people end up wanting to stay longer overtime. This is especially true when people decide that they want to permanently remain in the EU country of their choice. Trust me, if you don't want to be in this habit, just visit EU countries for tourism or business purposes.
• You will probably have difficulties making friends there, even if they share the same language with you. There are many slang phrases or different background cultures that separate you from them. So, unless you choose to integrate into their culture, you won't be accepted into their friend group.
• Many countries require you to get a job there before allowing you to rent or buy an apartment. For example, in countries such as France, Germany, Austria, Spain and Italy, you cannot buy an apartment without learning the local language and getting a local job there. Furthermore, many countries require you to present certificates to prove that you have sufficient enough knowledge there. If you fail to meet this requirement, then I'm sorry you'll be deported from the country with your visa cancelled.
• Like the previous comments mentioned, many insurances are expensive in the EU. Unlike Canada, medical appointments are not covered as part of government services, meaning you have to pay for everything. Plus, insurances only last for 2 years, unless you choose to extend it by paying for it again.

Hence, I would strongly not recommend living in any EU country. Just rent a hotel or airbnb and stay for the purpose of tourism for a period of less than 14 days.

14 days is like nothing. Some tour groups can last up to a month and people are still in the EU for tourism. Plus, even if I'm staying in an EU country, that doesn't mean that I'm renting or buying an apartment.

As I said, no one is forcing you to only stick to certain rules. In the end, the choice is yours. I strongly recommend forgetting about renting some sort of home and establishing life there. Even if you are just there for tourism, locals expect you to have at least basic knowledge of their language if you are there for more than a month, excluding Ireland. Some languages aren't that difficult to learn. For instance, basic Spanish, French and Italian should give you ample time to survive in Spain, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium and French/Italian-speaking Switzerland for a month. It's definitely possible to understand or even speak the basics of these languages after just 3 weeks of constant learning, but you just have to put in the effort.

Why do you want to spend part of your life in the EU? It's really unnecessary. Just stay in Canada. There's nothing wrong with visiting other countries for tourism or business, but like life is so much better in Canada than in most EU countries. I mean there's free medical care absolutely everywhere in Canada as long as you have a certain card. If you leave Canada and spend your life in a country in the EU, you have to pay for your own healthcare, medical treatment, etc. You have to pull out much more from your pocket, which can easily drain a lot, compared to if you only have a home in Canada.

I agree. It's very difficult to manage having 2 homes in 2 different countries. You have to pay your bills for each house every month, even if you don't live in 1 of them. Also, in some EU countries, they don't let you rent in apartment that easily. You need to have permanent residence from either Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland or an EU member nation to even be permitted to get an apartment or home there. Besides that, many EU nations require foreigners to have found a local job before even considering their request to buy an apartment. Otherwise, they will only allow you to stay in hotels or Airbnb for the duration of your stay. Plus, you need insurances to survive most of the conditions there and insurances don't last forever. They have an expiry date that you need to be aware of. For instance, if you get a European Health Insurance Card, it will only be valid for 2 years. Hence, just forget about having a second home. It's pointless and a waste of time. You can just rent a hotel if you want to. It doesn't hurt if you do so.

Sometimes, it's fun to live some life that you never experience. You need to learn to try new things and not waste it on the same things. Sure, I still love my home country but it's not wrong to vacation out or staying somewhere else that I also consider home.

True, but it's not even necessary to find a residence there. Many of the apartments and houses are in much worse condition than it is in Canada. Plus, there are many jobs where you can only work in person so if you stay out of your job for more than the allowed time off, you are at risk of losing your job. So, just stay in Canada and go out for vacation if you feel like the need while respecting the time out limits.
