Thanks to all for their opinions - as usual a wide cross section, some hating as per usual.

But some leaving thoughts
If men had the same safety net available to them that women do they'd probably use it, but they do not, instead they get told to 'Pull yourself together' or to 'Man up'. Not everywhere is like the US were 'Therapy' is the norm.
Society sees men as 'disposable' hence the lack of services and protections under law women take for granted.

well becareful with statistics. don't interpret structural "unfairness" into these numbers.

i can tell you one example from my social science classes. we looked at mortality rates and found that actually men live less years than women EVEN if you account for all the lifestyle choices that correlate with mortality. even in fact if you look at infant mortality. the ammount of male "live births" (meaning they were alive at birth and were not stillbirths) under 1 year old had a worse life expectancy than females in the same category even though none of the variables of lifestyle or social influence factors could apply to babies that young (except in societies that have a one child policy like china did or in some countries that are culturally backward and where a female baby means massive financial drawbacks for the family).

all this to say: yes there's inequalities. lots of them. we know that. some are disadvantageous for women, some are disadvantageous for men. but none of them should be construed to point at "intentionally" oppressive or tyranic structural social factors. that's just complete bullshit and movements like feminism or mgtow use these statistics to spread their nonsense and rile people up against each other, which i think is horrible.

Id like to comment on what another guys said here about normal men owing real women an apology for what bad men have done and for not protecting women from them. That's nonsense. We have a legal system that was designed by men to protect women. We have law officers, the vast majority of whom are men who put themselves in harm's way every day to protect everyone, including women. We have updated laws and made new ones in recent decades in response to the needs of women. Men have gone out of heir way to make changes to accommodate women's needs. Good men do NOT owe women an apology for what bad men do any more than today's men owe women an apology for what bad men of the past did.

Modern feminism, and women who align themselves with modern feminism, are a different story. Feminism has done and continues to do a lot of harm to boys and men, and any woman who still CHOOSES to support the movement is a shitty person who does indeed owe all boys and all good men an apology.

I understand, but a lot men refuse to speak on how they feel or other men don't seem to reach out and help one another. I have a male coworker that tells me he knows some of his male friends deal with depression but since they don't want to talk about how they feel or what they're going through, he doesn't really bother asking them. Some men really just don't care to hear it either cause they got other things going on or dont kniw how to deal with emotional issues. Also men speak on these issues a lot but won't do therapy or come together to build some sort of fundraiser just for young men and boys to recieve additional help.

This is typical in the west. At present there are only two shelters that even accept men in the US, and none for men only. If a man calls a hotline for abuse victims, he is always directed to counselors for ABUSERS. Johnny Depp recently successfully defended himself in court against his ex-wife’s allegations of abuse. If you followed the case, the evidence was pretty overwhelming against her. But now, as she attempts appeal, dozens of prominent feminists and feminist organizations have announced support for Heard, the ABUSER, and they’re bashing Johnny, the VICTIM. Some tiktok star recently murdered her boyfriend, stabbed him to death. There is video of her beating him in an elevator or something. Where’s the outrage? Nobody cares.
Societally, we have a long way to go before men can safely ask for and receive help the way that women can. I know two men who were fired from their jobs when word got out that they were going to therapy. At best, a man who needs help is “weak” and weak men are useless to us. At worst, men who need help are damaged and damaged men are dangerous.

But similar to women who sometimes find themselves there are situations in mens live where they do not HOW to resolve their problems. Dating struggled are a huge one for many men. They don’t know how to hell to effectively navigate in an often contradictory, confusing feminist driven society.

With that said I men do need to seek help BUT they have do it discreetly. It’s one of the reasons you see so many angry guys on GAG. This website gives some anonymity to ventilate safely. We went around in public acting like this we would be despised. Women might be able to get away with that. But not men.

That’s a damn shame about the mens shelter. I have thought often that’s it’s not right if a woman falls down on her luck she has a place to go, probably not necessarily the greatest place, but somewhere, meanwhile what’s out there for men? It makes me angry how little is done to help
Homeless, especially when we have so many abandoned places in the us that we just let sit around and ruin. I know men are supposed to be providers and protectors but I don't know when that became the same as y’all are supposed to be made of stone and nothing affects y’all. In an ideal world that would be ideal. But in today’s “modern” climate that’s not going to be a possibility. Reason being is far too many women are motivated by emotional self-serving instincts when it comes to debating what IS right vs. BEING right.

Initially it was about calling out rich and powerful men like Harvey Weinstein which most men has no problem with. Awareness is good, but service is better. Volunteer at shelters that help men. Ask your male relatives and friends about how they’re doing and learn to listen meaningfully. Hug the men in your life, ESPECIALLY when they resist it. We’re usually the ones who need it the most. If you only do it once a year, on this day, tell a man what you appreciate about him. Speak up about mental health problems, especially “dark” thoughts, and support those who are in need.

It’s still not socially acceptable, at least not entirely. Many of us are old enough to have been conditioned before it was even remotely socially acceptable. There are a lot of real and justifiable concerns for men surrounding needing help and even offering it. I think younger men are better about both. It appears they are and i hope i’m not wrong.
You might consider getting more directly involved. Grab your hubby and say, “Let’s go!”. Take him to his friend. Hang out if you’re kool with it, or drop him off for a play date! Ell oh ell! Do it yourself if you hafta. You could save a life. Even if he’s not that bad off, you’ll at least be able to remind him that he doesn’t have to go through the muck alone. Call him and tell him to call your husband when you know hubby doesn’t have anything to do! Ell oh ell!
In some ways, men DO help other men. There are men’s groups, social and professional therapeutic, men’s retreats and getaways. It’s just a small offering because of societal disapproval. When we can make it just as normal for men to embrace the full range of human emotions as women, and treat each other with the love and respect every single human being deserves…. well, that’s the dream.

Guys can normally help each other by just hanging out or talking about anything but out right talking about the issue is not something guys can do in public or around females, those are 2 of the worst situations for guys to talk about any problem because guys don't want the public humiliation or to be seen and treated as weak by females (which some of you say won't happen but you always come back to it at some point). women initiate divorce because women are not happy in marriage. You don't realize that women have everything to LOSE in marriage while men have everything to GAIN in marriage. A woman needs to give up her career, income, promotion prospects, freedom just to have children. A man gets a free maid, free nanny, free chef. Most men aren't even competent breadwinners today. They can't even afford housewives. So what ends up happening is the wife ends up working a full time job while doing most of the house work. Believe it or not, housework and child rearing is still mainly a woman's duty. Whenever the kid is sick, it is always the mom who needs to call out of work to take care of the child. Whenever a woman give birth, its always the woman who needs to give up her career for a few years. Never the man.

Of course I can understand why mothers want the children and the money because if I was getting divorces and had a couple of children, being selfish and all people are selfish, I would want the children and the guy's money. However, it is not going to change, because regardless of the facts, in a dispute between a man and a woman 100% of women and at least 50% of me will take the woman's side. Courts give children to mothers rather than fathers because they know children tend to prefer the mother over the father. Children have a special connection to their mothers that they simply do not have with their fathers. Your mother carried you for 9 months, tortured herself in order to give birth to you. This process itself creates a very special bond between mother and child. Women are also better nurturers than fathers. Take a look at who kids run to when they get hurt? mom or dad? they usually always run to the mother for comfort / care/ safety instead of the father.

And plus, being a single mom is HARD regardless of whatever little child support payments you get does not make up for the emotional / physical turmoil and stress that you accumulate over the years. Imagine working your ass off all day at your job then rushing home to cook, clean, tutor your children, prepare their lunch boxes, do laundry. The next morning she needs to wake up early to prepare the kids' breakfast. This can easily be a 22-hour work day.

On weekends, it consists of grocery shopping, cleaning up the kid's messes' they've made throughout the week, doing the kid's laundry, taking kids to doctors' appointments, meal prepping for the upcoming week. She has no time to get her nails or hair done. she's doing all the grunt work.

Its very unlike the father who comes home after work everyday to do nothing but watch sports then sleep. Then on weekends, he gets to wake up late in the afternoon then play all day with the kids before he returns them to the mother so she can change their diapers, bathe them, tutor them, cook for their lunch boxes.

if you think life as a single mother is better than life as a married mother, think again.

Nobody gets the luxury of getting someone else to raise your kids for free , WITHOUT YOU EVER LIFTING A FINGER.

I buy the “toxic masculinity” to a certain extent. When I think toxic masculinity, I think of men who are insecure that act excessively in a stereotypical “masculine” way. In all honesty the things that I can only classify as “toxic masculinity” are homophobia, excessive physical aggression, the “emotionless” persona, and the refusal to participate in anything feminine. However, too many character flaws are called toxic masculinity when it’s not. If a man thinks painting his fingernails is feminine, he’s not toxic.
