My concern is that, if we need to have a day to remind us of highlight issues faced as men, then why are we not working towards highlighting and resolving them every day? Why do we need to remind ourselves once every year about these things, and forget about them the next day?
Also, IMD is commonly seen as a rivalry to International Womens' Day, which should not be the case, since these two days serve completely different purposes. IWD is important as a reminder of the neccessity of equality for women and men, especially since there are places in this world where women are still disadvantaged, and to bring awareness to female-centric societal and health issues that still plague societies across the world.
IMD, on the other hand, should serve to bring to light the issues and negative stereotypes regarding mens' physical and mental health, as well as societal problems, beliefs and traditions that negatively affect men. This is totally different from the meaning and purpose of IWD, showing that both days have their rightful place in the calendar.
The fact that IMD is being used (particularly by misogynists, incels and MGTOWs), to bash and hate women is what paints a bad picture of IMD, even when it was created in the first place with good intentions, detracting from the original purpose of having IMD in the first place.
So I implore everyone, do not view IMD as a threat or competition to IWD. IWD is still relevant and needed, but for different reasons than why IMD exists. Lets take a step back and rethink our notions on how we increase our awareness on issues disproportionately affecting men, at the same time doing the same for women as well.
Your thoughts, guys and gals?
