Why do people believe that being transgender is a mental illness? Can mental illness affect small children, be lifelong, and have no treatment?

This seems like so much more than a mental illness. It seems like who I am. Gender determines almost everything about you. Everything about being a boy felt wrong and everything about being a girl looked right. When I was 7 and my cousin and her friend dressed me up as a girl I was totally humiliated. I expected to look in the mirror and be so embarrassed. Instead I looked in the mirror and felt like I had just looked in the mirror for the first time in my life.

The mind is a very powerful organ, so people believe that experiences in life mixed with your mentality it can create a completely different reality, when you believe something it is true and factual to that person so if it is a form of mental illness (I don't know if it is) it's logical that to you its your reality because you believe it, to you it's this way when for others seeing it in the third perspective where their mind doesn't believe in the same thing, keep in mind when people are born, their minds aren't developed and what they see, what they experience and what they do and the results they get forms their mentality, when you were a child did you believe this? I'm not judging here, my questions are genuine, or did this mentality form during puberty as you were growing, which can start as young as 11 years of age?

It can, I suspect it can be something physical as well. Life is very hormonal, physical, and emotional, genetic.

Emotions can be projected onto others which means what someone does can impact another person and distort their sense of whom they are, whom they believe they are. That is emotional. Thats why children have to be protected and listened to. Children can be impacted emotionally, developmentally before they are born by others, by the environment they grow up in.

So it's possible, I'm not saying it definitely is. It is at minimum... a disorder since the mind and body are not in synch.

Children who are bullied at a young age by being told they are something tend to grow up believing that. Kids that are told they are stupid and worthless tend to grow up to act like they are stupid and worthless, and kids who are made fun of by being bullied into acting like the opposite gender tend to continue acting like the opposite gender.

Can mental illness affect small children? Yes. There are children's psychiatric inpatient units in every major city in the US.

Can mental illness be lifelong? Absolutely. Personal disorders and the major psychoses are lifelong disorders.

Can mental illness have no treatment? Yes, indeed! There is no real treatment for the personality disorders and major psychoses.

I didn't transition medically until 15 and I did it on my own. I didn't see a doctor until 18. I've never had a surgery in my life

And how are those two mutually exclusive? Lots of people let their mental illnesses become their identities, still doesn't negate that autism is a mental illness.
