Is remote work bad for companies? Is remote work bad for people?

Question

There is some data to suggest that remote work is bad for companies in the short term, and good for people. What do you think?

I think it's bad for both companies and employees. There are exceptions for everything though.

Personally I don't like working at home. I've done a fair amount of work out-of-state, living in motels for weeks or months. I probably could have done a lot more work if I worked long distance at home, but very few companies were willing to do it.

I like interacting with other people. When I've worked at home I started to feel distant from people after a while. I need to get out of the house and go somewhere. Working at home just get weird after a while.

I think there is a considerable longer term benefit to remote work for companies. Happy employees are more productive employees

I have a mixed view on this. I believe that it all depends on the integrity and the work ethic of the employees. If the employees are good workers and are motivated to be productive, then, it is good for the companies. But if the employees are slackers, then it is bad.

Depends on the type of work. If you need lots of human integration, it's probably going to hurt your company.
I work in software and the engineers typically love it, and the efficiency of the company had not been compromised. But even so, put a couple of engineers in a room with a laptop and watch them chatting about code together. There are things that we definitely miss by work alone, msteams or not. But other things such as flexibility, focus, and no commuting that we gain.

I would have voted "sometimes". Its nice to have face to face conversations. We all have had a text message (s) that are way to complicated to finish with a text and sometimes with zoom as well. Also, how can I graze the kitchen during the holidays when working from home!

My kids all worked from home. It was good for them because nobody missed a paycheck. Most of the places they work for got subsidized from the government for not laying anyone off. None of these places was doing much business so if they did not get bailed out they would be collecting unemployment instead.

It’s got its good and bad for both employees and employers. I’ve been 100% remote since a new job in January and it wasn’t without challenges.

Man, I'm torn on this. Working remotely can be very isolating and it doesn't help new people identify with the culture and learn all the informal things.

It’s both good for people and companies. Research shows workers are 20% more productive. Although there are some people who like going to an office.

In my experience yes it reduces productivity it's perfectly safe to go to the office people need to stop taking the piss and get back to work taking advantage of the pandemic is disgusting no wonder we are entering a global recession
