But I don’t think the 2a, Conventions or Electoral College was what Trump had in mind.
Should we #cancel the Constitution?
But I don’t think the 2a, Conventions or Electoral College was what Trump had in mind.
Yes and no. (if you wanna just get to my point just go to bottom paragraph)
Yes, the constitution is the oldest written constitution in our modern day that is still in use, and has a lot of undefined or defunct rules in it that everybody argues over what it means all the time, with such subjective implications that rulings can be turned on a dime if brought to the highest court in the land and there’s a supermajority there (not naming names but you already know) that doesn’t agree with what a large majority of the population agrees is the best interpretation of the law that is fair. Yes, it is basically falling apart and needs an upgrade, and it was recommended that a new one be drafted up every 19 or so years so generationally defunct things don’t cause an issue (by Thomas Jefferson himself mind you).
However, there is also the case of it being very much politically unstable in the United States. Both sides unwilling to compromise, a politically motivated supreme court, insurrectionists running amok with very little repercussions comparative to other countries, insurrection happening in general, divisive politics, strawman building to the point a lot of times people are just casting blame on a purely politically idealized figure of everything they hate when they are NOTHING LIKE WHAT THEY ARE BLAMING, hypocrisy, nearly blatant corruption, very few people actually working for progressing the nation instead of only for re-election and choosing to twiddle their thumbs and say “hey vote this way so you can get this”, QAnon in general being a major political force at this point, yeah you get my point.
The country is fucked up and if we could, I’d love to have the constitution reworked, but unless we are able to talk to each other as rational human beings, not try to take away rights for someone simply existing outside of your ideology, and not shoot up something for like a week, I highly doubt now is a great time.
@Price511 I think you need to think this over a little more, and learn about the other side. You seem to hold some rather strange theories of your own that don't match reality about people you don't know.
In general if anyone ever tells you to beleive anything about any group, you ask them to show you evidence that is what their leaders are doing and believing. Otherwise in a country of 330 million you can find anyone who believes anything and claim they represent whatever faction they happen to support.
FYI: An insurrection requires an armed effort to physically overthrow and replace a goverment. This is a very dangerous term that should not be thrown around for any lesser effort or you without a doubt WILL end up with a dictatorship. A lose definition is what dictators consistently use to maintain their hold on power.
@Price511
In regard to the Constitution you will have to be more spesfic we have in excess of 51 Constitutions in the USA. A Federal Constitutions and every state has a State constitution 2 of which are older than the Federal Constitution.
The fact that the current federal Government has over the last 200 years acquired so much power over everything it hardly any kind of Constitutional goverment. Much less the Goverment of "few and defined powers" of a forign nature we actually agreed to authorized in that 11 page Federal Constitution is a problem. A problem both Constitutionally and practically for a large and ever more diverse union.
Constitutionally this means there is no longer any rule book and as such everything is on the line all the time.
Practically this is an even bigger problem for an ever larger and more diverse union as it means that unlimited goverment will increasingly become a weapon of political and cultural war between the factions thereof until inevitably and repeatably they decide they don't trust the other side to govern at all.
This is where we are right now and you know it is a DIRECT result of the effectively limitless power over everything at stake every election.
Politicians really do want this as it forces everyone to fight for THEIR power over everything just to have what you need "your way".
IKWYM, but there's room in there for democratic amendment for a reason.
The latest news on the gun safety problem is that a Texas judge has struck down the federal law that prohibits access to guns for people subject to domestic violence protection orders because they didn't worry about domestic violence when the 2nd amendment was written, and that's the standard now, since SCOTUS was packed by Republicans who really quite like the idea of taking the country back to the 18th century.
Every time there's a mass shooting and someone suggests a sensible improvement to gun control, the right scream it's against the con.
Want to spread lies, misinformation, or hatred? Don't worry the con will protect your rights more than the victim.
I've lost count of the times on gag that the con has been used as justification for doing something by the far right.
When we are fighting to protect our rights as it is, why would we want to suspend the Constitution and give someone the chance to become a dictator?
I heard the exact opposite from reading the whole quote. The laws including the Constitution are CURRENTLY suspended. If you doubt that try reading the 11 page Federal constitution of "Few and defined" powers of a forign nature and explaining DOE, SS, FBI, ATF, ACA, HUD, and countless other "Federal" agencies claiming vast power over every aspect of our domestic lives from our car to our houses.
Effectively unaccountable Federal politicians both elected and hand picked suspend the Federal constitution without recourse a century or more ago. Today they live only by the limits they chose for themselfs.
@monorprise hey you shoulda prepped Perry better for the debate.

Always got a laugh out of this….
Nope. There's one reason 45 wants to do this. So he can be in power forever and always. There's no guarantee this would be one of the outcomes if you did do away with it, and I doubt anyone can actually sit down and calculate all of the ramifications of doing so... The sabotage needs to stop, and every R that refuses to denounce that guy SHOULD be held accountable. They are proving that they believe keeping their "team" in power is more important than the good of the country. Kinda runs contrary to their oathes right? But then again it looks like an oath is only as good as the will of the person being sworn in to uphold it. We now are electing people who take the oath having every intention of shattering it their first day in office and every day after.
How many times are people going to be puzzled when Orange Jesus says something stupid and then does some weak retraction? Get real, he said what he meant the first time, and continues to mean it even after trying to mitigate the damage. This also a dog whistle to the fascist element in his following... make no mistake, this statement gives his neo nazi pals wet dreams.
They already canceled the Federal Constitution in choosing to ignore its limits, and make up its terms.
A Constitution is only so good as the ability/inclination of the opposition faction to enforce its limits.
Unfortunately its only ever a matter of time before the insatiable power lust of politicians find a way to break every limit upon their power.
In our Federal Constitution's case they found and exploited a critical bug in the enforcement mechanism enabling them to hand pick their own judges and directly subjugate an army to directly carry out whatever edict they wish via the tax code or raw force.
The final safeguard for liberty, the inalienable and foundational right of the people to throw off such governments was largely curtailed in 1865 in the name of nationalism as blindly supported by factionalism.
Enabling leaders to set the people against each-other so that they might reliably use one to enslave the other to their will.
He doesn't want to cancel the constitution.
You got to remember who you are dealing with.
He doesn't believe he can ever lose. He is very delusional and actually has convinced himself that this was a fraudulent election and shouldn't count.
I mean he uses everything and spins it to be proof of election fraud. a lot of delusion
@exitseven we wake up the next day and the grass is wet. A giant helicopter could've super soaked us or it rained. Mmm…
@exitseven but again that is grasping at straws.
A company didn't like me so they kept things off their website that could've helped my campaign.
"FRAUD! FRAUD! SOUND THE ALARMS THROW OUT THE ELECTION RESULTS!"
The man is full of paranoia and it is making his supporters paranoid. He is full of conspiracy theories. Everyone is out to get him and nothing he does is ever his fault.
That is not a good leader.
He is a spoiled rich kid who never grew up and never matured.
It tells you how horrible his actions were that Biden who had a history of racism and stupidity was voted in over him.
It wasn't a conspiracy, he created this hate filled verison of politics with his constant raging, and conspiracies and boohooing about everyone is out to get me.
I remember one of his speeches where I truly knew how evil he was. I don't remember the state but a democratic governor pissed him off and he was asked why he won't give her medical supplies for her state.
He said all she has to do is apologize and i will.
What kind of leader does that?
I got beef with one person but because of that beef i will not send supplies that could save hundreds or thousands of lives because she didn't stroke his god complex
President Trump has been hounded by the media since he announced his candidacy in 2015. The press never reported on all the great things he did under his admistraton. You may not like him as a person but it is hard to argue with what he accomplished in just 4 years. And tha was with dealing with two impeachment and all the drama the fake news came up with. I never liked him much either. However I don't blame him for being frustrated and angry at the blatant double standard there is towards conservatives. We have a sitting president that bumbles through one disaster after another and the press gives him a pass everytime.
@exitseven he didn't do anything that was good.
He had a few things here and there that were successful. But he had a brutal cutthroating way of doing it to the point that other countries he dealt with felt cheated or angered. It isn't a good way to deal business negotiations.
Do you know how many long time us friends leaders cheered to see him gone.
The amount of foreign hostile was left by him.
It didn't stop there. He also internally did this.
He brutally harrassed and angered americans. He lied and flipped things. He created a divide in this country that has people now wanting a civil war. Wanting states to succeed. We didn't hear this crap till he arrived. A country cannot survive with a leader who thrives on division just 4 years of him this country completely hates each other based off of are you for or against him. That is far more important than he had some economic successes here and there.
Yes foreign countries were glad to see Trump go. NATO deadbeats don't have to worry about paying their fair share. China doesn't have to worry about being held accountable for Covid and the Taliban is armed to the teeth with weapons Biden left behind. Hunter's former employer, Ukraine is getting a blank check.
@exitseven and you still choose to ignore the most important part what he has done to this country🤷🏾♀️ ya know the place he was elected to help.
And fixing deals with foreign countries does not mean destroy the relationship with them
This is the kind of thing dictators do. Like when hitler suspended the constitution through the reichstag fire decree and the enabling act. And trumptards wonder why trump is compared to hitler. 🙄
I actually think it needs to be respected and not wildly misinterpreted. If you interpret the Second Amendment literally for example, it does not prohibit citizens from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Don't like the Amendment? Then change it instead of misinterpreting it.
The fact is, we don't really have a constitution. A constitution that has no penalty for violating it or a means of enforcing it, is not really a constitution.
Sanity would be required for a rewrite. Nobody in politics seems to have it. It would show, they would be on the side of the people.
There ya go
Nah, cancel the type of folks who wants race based hurrican reliefs, as if if hurricans discriminates based on race... (They do seem to target white people, even I must admit that, but obviously non-white people should absolutely not get more than white people just for not being white)
The person who disliked my answer pobably wante race based hirrucan aids that benefis white people and didn't like the idea of not doing so
You have obviously lost your fucking mind. The constitution may be trash to Democrats but to the Patriots of this country who fight and defend for it overseas it's not. If we didn't have the constitution this country would be trash.
Mr. Happy is at it again. Whoooo WHoooo. This part of Trump is like a Simpson episode. He deserves this one.
Some of it can be improved, because it was after all written in another time. But you shouldn't cancel it. It's better than nothing.
Another fucking retard who doesn't understand English.
if we're not going to follow the constitution then what purpose is it serving?
I've heard a lot of Dems that want to get rid of the Constitution.
He did not even say that. He talked about the alleged fraud allowing for it. Good grief, there are a lot of misinformed people on this site.
No, just get rid of that silly Second Amendment.
Good luck with that. He loves communism. North Korea would love to have him.
Nope, everyone needs to condemn canceling the constitution.
They needed to do that 100 years ago, today its more about recognizing that there once was a constitution, it described a limited goverment we are suppose to believe isn't even possible today.
That constitution is no more enforce than the organization claiming legitimacy under it is limited in nature to "objects of a forign nature".
1 retard so far...
4 now.
