What is the question here? California bases it on your income. If he makea about 1.7million$ a month he would be paying ballpark 200 000$ in child support. If he actually takes care of the kid the number will go down a fair bit.

We can argue right and wrong. I do believe it wrong to take such a large portion of income that is clearly not required for the basic needs of a child. But he's paying that amount, if he is, because he earns enough money to be told to do so. If the money actually goes to the kid and not the other parent, I do not view it as directly wrong. Although that does not mean it is right and should not be improved upon either.
