In Kerala, India it's pretty taboo still, especially when there is a wedding or a funeral in the family. I've grown up outside Kerala, never got treated the way I'm being treated currently, by very VERY close relatives. I'm at my grandmother's funeral and I'm not allowed to come out of a room. Don't know how do adjust to this. Don't think I ever will be able to.
Let me know if something similar has happened to you or you have witnessed. Or let me know how it is at your place, are there some weird rituals or traditions when you or a girl you know is menstruating?

I'm from England and I've never known of any tradions or rituals like that. Where I'm from having your period is just a normal thing that happens to all women.
As for talking about it. a lot of schools these days talk about in my highschool all the girls were put into a class (of all girls) and the school nurse came to talk to us about periods and what to do that time of the month.
Outside if that it's not really something people discuss or treated it as a big deal. It's just a normal thing and is dealt with personally (as in staying clean down there) and nobody is left out or put into a room. The woman just does her moral day to day thing and only tine anybody knows its her period is if she tells somebody and even then it's not seen as a big deal.
Hope this helps
A bit.
Although I am always willing to listen about it, if the girl is willing.
