Do you care if executions are humane?

There’s quite a lot of evidence that shows we don’t have a humane method. Lethal injection causes immense gasping and subjects “turning purple”. Some inmates have said their insides are burning before they died.

Then there are death row inmates choosing the electric chair, for godsakes. That’s certainly not painless.

Dostoevsky wrote that “the degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons.”

There is no such thing as life sentences... the only way I'd support doing away with executions is if life sentences are 100% life sentences... no parole, no way for a governor or president to pardon or commute sentences.

I get tired of hearing someone got a life sentence and yet they got out on parole in 20 or 40 years or someone thinks they've done enough time and commutes their sentence.

I even think the law should say, someone needs to be executed the same way they killed someone, exactly.

That is if they are there for killing someone.

I don't think execution should be for other things like treason, naw... lock them up for life, no one will commute that (most likely.)

Sex offenders, definitely should be executed, as they cannot be rehabilitated and will find other victims when they get out, and learn how to do it better to avoid getting caught. This is for TRUE sex offenders, not those who got arrested for taking a piss in public.

Ironically, I've always thought carbon monoxide should work, people accidently die from it all the time and the those that survive (near death) say they felt nothing, barely remember anything.

Maybe a airtight room where they can quickly suck out oxygen and pump in Carbon Monoxide would be the solution and don't tell them when it will happen just do it.

There are life sentences in America without parole. But it’s ironic that the countries that impose least sentences have the less crime per 100,000.

Yet I've seen people in prison for life without parole still get out. When they had their sentence commuted.

What I think should be done if a state does away with the death penalty is simply this.

Pass a law to get rid of it, but put a trigger clause in that says, if someone who is sentenced for life without parole gets out legally (doesn't matter how) that the death penalty is automatically re-instated.

If they get commuted, pardoned, or even the court changes it from life without parole to life with parole, then it all comes back in full force.

Then we can at least say we tried and it failed this person didn't serve their life sentence and this is WHY we need the death penalty.

If at any point the courts strike down that law as illegal, then the death penalty comes back too, or stays in place.

We can manage to humanely kill animals of all shapes and sizes so why can't we do the same with humans? If you go into hospital for an operation they manage to render you unconscious easily enough, so why can't prisons.

I think we shouldn't have a death penalty at all. No matter what there is to be said about what they deserve, the fact is there are lots of innocent people in their lives who may not deserve to have someone they may love taken from them. I suppose a if a death penalty were required to be a unanimous decision by all friends, family, and fans before it is passed down. Then i guess it would be fair.

But if we're going to have it anyway I don't see why making it painless matters either way. Even the memory of the pain will be dead soon enough.

Statistically, humans can’t provide a perfect track record of guilty executions. Innocents will always be killed. Even if it’s just 1%. Too much for me.

Thats why I'm saying friends, family, and fans would have to pass the verdict. That way even if there is a mistake, there the only ones who should be able to know that.

Of course the caveat is fans. If someone is simply opposed to the death penalty under any circumstances they can call themselves a fan and vote no. It has to be unanimous, so that's that.

I don’t know how that gets around mathematical probability. There’s some equation, whatever if it’s: 1 out of 100, 1 out of 100,000… that WILL be innocent when we execute them. No way for flawed humans to get around it.

I've never figured out why killing someone is so difficult. All these things you mentioned are because of people trying to make it more humane. It should be extremely easy to do, but they choose not to do it the easy way. They come up with all these convoluted methods.

The death penalty should be reserved exclusively for politicians in the form of public hangings when things have gone so bad that such things are necessary in a revolution.

The state itself should not have a license to kill prisoners who have been rendered harmless in captivity. What's the practical purpose of killing them? There is none.

Appeals are automatic in most states and available for condemned convicts in all. They get carte blanche legal funding to appeal their execution no matter what.

It’s clearly researched that capital punishment is 10x more expensive. I get other arguments, but not this one.
