Why are women who have been sexually assaulted called "survivors"?

What exactly did you "survive". It's not as if any woman has ever died of sexual assault 🙄. I think we should keep the word "survivors" for men who went to war.

Those who survive sexual assault survive a mental, physical, and emotional attack. Often it is criminal in nature and those who manage to recover and function again are referred to as Survivors and they are. Survivors from criminal attack and emotional scarring.

Rape is a traumatic experience that can haunts a person for life. Seeping fear and anxiety into every aspect.
In fact, the PTSD from rape can be as bad, or worse depending on the person, than PTSD from war.
