What does it mean when a guy tells you "no one deserves you"?

I've been best friends with this guy for about 10 years. We have always just been friends. recently, however, things seem to have changed. He is currently living out of the country and so we have been corresponding via letters. In his last letter, he told me that he knew no man who was good enough for me. He wrote that there were very few men who deserved me. He continued to explain that he was completley finished with his old girlfriend. Are his words about no one deserving me those of a friend or something else? I'm trying to decide if there is more to our relationship than platonic bffs.

i think being out of the country he's had time to think about his relationship with his girlfriend (which now seems to be his exgf) and his relationship with you. he may have realized that he has some strong emotional feelings for you and in around about way saying any other guys do not derserve to be with a fantastic girl like you. not that you weren't good enough but that you were worth a whole lot . and if he's completely finished with his old girlfriend I'm thinking he may be saying without saying it could or would you consider me filling that position if your not taken.

In all honesty I'm just afraid about moving forward. How do you think I should respond to him if I am interested in moving our relationship to something more serious?

just be receptive to him and share with him how you may feel about him.

honesty and communication as well as the core friendship is vital to any worthy and great relationship as (gf/bf or if move to deeper such as marriage). relationships is a 2 way street and both people needs to WORK at it to keep it healthy. if not that's were problems come in (breakups/divorces ) . the keys here

3. and be receptive to his caring for you

It sounds like he is trying to make himself out to be the best man in the world for you, or the foremost of the few in the world that would deserve a girl like you. I would definitely say that there is future potential for taking your relationship beyond the level of platonic bff's if you were interested in going there. I formed that opinion before I read the part about him ending things with his ex, but after that the matter appeared to be settled. Good luck in whatever you choose to do, I hope it works out the way you want it to.

I hope you're right, becuase I think that we should give it a shot. if I wanted to encourage something, how do you think I should respond to what he said? I'm drawing a blank here. Maybe he feels like he isn't even good enough. If its been 10 years, maybe that's why he hasn't asked you to be his girlfriend.

from philr to mizzvmn: to be honest I think he does have feelings for her its just taken him this long to admit it. many feel (its not true though what they feel) that best friends can't be boyfriend/girlfriend .

friendship is at the core of any good and lasting romantic long term relationship . ask some guy that's not in a frindship bases but dating asking him what her favorite color is ,he'll draw a blank.

ask this guy of 10 year friendship he'll tell you the color, what her favorite TV prog. , and more.

Of course he has feelings for her. If he is talking about it, he had to think about it right? What I'm saying though is that if they have been strictly friends for ten years, then he probably has some reservations about their possible relationship.

If I may comment on your comments, I'd like to share some additional information. We have a pretty intimate reltionship emotionally because we have been such good friends for so long. I think neither of us has ever mentioned taking things to the next level because we are both afaid of messing up our friendship. I know he cares about me as a human being, I'm just trying to figure out if he is saying that he has developed deeper feelings and wants to possibly date me. what do you guys think?

Give him a chance, ie "have you ever thought about what me and you will be like..."
