There is an interesting video on this subject by 'GirlWritesWhat?' which explains the origins of this sort of thing and how / why this is a necessary 'right' in cultures where men are held legally responsible for their wives, after all how can you ask someone to be accountable for someone and then also tell them that they are not allowed to moderate their behaviour.

I don't recall and I am not sure i ever knew specifically which cultures she is referencing in her talk but it is certainly very interesting as we have a tendancy these days to look at such a thing as an example of the oppression of women when if anything the reverse is true.

I would never want to live in a country where you have to have a dress code to go out in public... and it is the Hadith that is garbage with these stupid bullshit rules not the Quran... but I have to say my children are muslims so if anyone ever says shit about them I will punch you the fuck out...

No one should say anything about the children, but, if someone says shit about your "God", your Allah, your book gives you the right and duty to slay them because of blasphemy. That's fucked up.

@loveslongnails If you hate Muslims in general you hate the kids as well... I'm not Muslim just my kids are, id be a bad Muslim if I was one lol... But the Quran does not say that... The fucked up shit all comes from the Hadith.. Which was written after the prophet was dead and after the Quran was written, Its all just bullshit... Mind you many Muslims believe in the Hadith as well... In the Quran it says if you kill a man it is like you killed all of humanity... So don't be spreading false bullshit when you haven't even read the book yourself LOL

I'm not a Quran scholar, and neither are you> I've read some of it, but I'm not going to debate passage and verse with you. There are pages of refence materials devoted to this subject, easily found on the internet. It appears at a cursory glance that scholars say there's nothing in the "authentic teachings of Mohammed that shows that". If you want to maintain that there's no mention of such things in the actual Quran, I'd have to research it, not just take your word for it. Perhaps it is just the militant factions that preach this, but if many Muslims are believe the Hadith as well, as you say, obviously you can see where the problem arises.

I don't hate Muslims - I loathe RADICALS from any religious group.

@loveslongnails Yes the Hadith does cause many problems... I don't know why so many believe in it... The Quran even says it is one book complete and true.. so where does the hadith fit in... it doesn't, yet even my ex's family believe you need the hadith...
Well I hope you don't... but be careful of what you spread if you don't know is all I am saying... because there are many people who do hate Muslims..

I mean, sure, men don’t have the legal right to punish their wives in the US. However, there is definitely some gray area there. Traditions are still taught here, families raise their daughters to be traditional, and society pushes those traditions onto all of us. Sexist traditions to be specific, that says men are supposed to be head of the household and wives submit. That’s just one example but it seems these sexist ideals are taught to avoid quote on quote ā€œproblem womenā€, women speaking up, and wanting mutual respect or men acting out as they always do when they don’t get their way.

But yeah, not legal per say

But I do believe countries with majority religious faiths, patriarchal religion (christianity, Islam, etc) really leaves room for men to control their wives as if she’s property. There are also conservatives as they are traditional and traditions never cared about progression or the rights of women so. . There’s also some South Asians counties. Even countries in African (because of colonization and traditions). Canada as well. Etc.

Again, though, even though in some countries it isn’t legal, the gray area is there for a reason. And that reason is, women are not respected. We are considered second class citizens, there for men to enjoy and use for birthing and them to O

Sucks being a woman anywhere but definitely outside the US even though being in the US still sucks

Punish how? Like sex games? If its that, then its just s&m type stuff. That's legal. But punish like wife beating, then that is illegal and should be everywhere. But in some countries its not.

No, they don't have such rights here. It's an extreme offence with high penalty and punishment. Any kind of physical abuse is strictly prohibited, for both men and women. However, yes in some households it's done illegally but the wife can complain or file a case against her husband for mental and physical abuse both. Punishment is stronger for physical abuse though. And I'm from India.
