Fairness or mercy?

For me at least,

Fairness means you treat everyone the same no matter what. Everyone gets the same amount of food, no matter what.

Mercy means that people who really need help get a little extra food, no matter what. It does not mean others get less.

I'm not sure mercy here is the right word. But I'm choosing that one since you asked us to pick one. 🙂

I'm going to distribute based on need. So if it's a family wax X number of children, they're going to get a different amount than just one person or a childless couple. Not because of a value statement just there's more people.

I'd make it fair. anyone wants extra, they can work for it.

If someone needs more, (mercy), they can make friends and ask someone else for their portion.

But in real life not fantasy land, it's mercy...

Merciful, if the system can withstand it. But if there's simply not enough to go around, triage to keep the most productive alive so the system doesn't collapse.

I will be fair... but I will suggest to those who need it less to have mercy and share with those who are in the most need

and if they don't... they might start, coincidently of course... developing a few cases of Moctezuma's revenge...

Fairness is everyone getting exactly what is deserved whether the Law or “karma”.

We did this during Covid times in Thailand ( so social welfare ) .. How could we possibly make that decision? We gave our packs to all who requested. Virtually impossible , so just stick with fairness.

Fairness. giving mostly to somebody's perception of need only creates discord and mistrust.
