Should American men still have to sign up for the draft for the right to vote?

No. Its an irrelevant outdated system and non-issue. The US has a huge 2 million volunteer professionally trained personal in uniform and if that's not enough there are probably ten million vetreans or more still fit for service that would be recalled before the draft just like with what happened in the Korean war where ww2 vets were recalled to fight. The US military jobs are now becoming more automated and there is less need for infantry than ever before with drones. A tiny percentage of the US military actually does any fighting now.

If there was an emergency where the US military needed personal whether there had been a requirement or not for men to sign up to be drafted men and women would quickly be drafted in the space of a week. You might say that it's not legal, well thd government would make it legal.

You are mistaken- that's not how it works. The two are unrelated; you're not given an option to simply not vote and be excused for battle thralldom- that's just the excuse the court gave in 1917.

It didn't in Vietnam. The US government doesn't go to war anymore, they just call it by another name such as a "military intervention" or "police action" or whatever else they can think of to avoid declaring war.

@ChefPapiChulo it doesn’t matter. LBJ was a Dem who drafted poor blacks to fight his dirty war. Repubs wanted to go further and (cough) played dirtier tricks to win Nixon the presidency which upped the ante in Vietnam significantly.

So yes, both parties were heavily invested in the war for stupid reasons. But repub voters didn’t protest against it.

Nixon deescalated the war in Vietnam by pulling significant numbers of troops out. LBJ chose to resign knowing that he wouldn't hlget reelected and because his party didn't support him. The Tet offensive sealed his fate.

Nope. 25,000 withdrawn in 69, by 1970 150,000. Nixon upped the bombing to get the north Vietnamese to the peace table and to stop the movement of nva troops to the south to replace the vietcong that was basically wiped out during the tet offensive. The only way Nixon could escalate the Vietnam war would have been an all out invasion of North Vietnam
