White Liberals when you guys acknowledge your "White Privledge" do you also have to give up everything "White Privledge" gave you?

My wife and I didn't know anyone here when moved to this area over 20 years ago. Then she found out that a couple she had known in SoCal lived here. When we met up and said we didn't know how we were going to meet people, they said we should come to their church the next day.

I can't stomach religion, so I was like "Yeah, nah."

But they said it was nondenominational. There were Christian, Jews, Muslims, pagans, atheists, etc. I had never heard of such a thing so I decided to give it a try.

I was amazed. There was no minister, but it was fun, and I wound up meeting some of the nicest, brightest, best informed people. Many of them were practically my parent's age and they were all liberal. Some of them became my best friends ever in my whole life.

As time went by, the older ones gradually died off. Corporate people and PhD's from the (San Francisco) Bay area started moving to our rural area, and those who were liberal began finding our congregation. These were retired, very well off, self-satisfied, elitist, latte-liberal, types. They lived VERY comfortably.

The character of the congregation began to change from liberal to Liberal. Those people latched onto every new "woke" issue that Democrats and liberal msm preached. I became a club for Democrats and I became more and more alienated.

So, to the point of your question, these privileged, white motherfuckers swallowed the white privilege narrative hook, line and sinker. They held study groups on the Beverly Diangelo book, put a "Black Lives Matter" banner outside the building, held little marches in town, etc. They acted like we were still in the midst of the civil rights struggle of the 60s and 70s, as if nothing had changed in the intervening years.

Those white, latte-liberals knew how to fix the "black" problem because, of course, THEY were experts on EVERYTHING.

But they didn't give up anything. Their privileged lifestyles didn't change a bit. But they were eager to point fingers at others.

I finally quit the congregation in 2015.

I still have 60s-70s liberal values. I thought liberal meant peace, love, open mindedness, tolerance, support for fairness and justice, distrust of authority, and anti-war. That's nothing like today's Liberalism. I know more conservatives than liberals now days who share those values.

Peace and love? Progressives have only turbulence and hatred in their hearts for the world around them.

Open-mindedness and tolerance? They are some of the most racist people around.

Support for fairness and justice? They will lie to get you in jail if you disagree with them

Distrust of authority and anti-war? They love authority so long as it purports to advance their agenda and they love war so long as their side is the one doing it.

Its less to do with being white and more to acknowledge that individuals who are born into higher socioeconomic households may often times have a significantly easier time than if those same exact individuals likely would have if they were born into lower socioeconomic household - all things being equal.

The reason "white" privilege is thrown in there is that although there are certainly many white people who are not privileged, and there are certainly som black people who are - on a per capita basis significantly more white people per capita (out of all of the white people as sample distribution pool) are born into higher socioeconomic households than the number of black people per capita / all of the black people in USA as sample distribution pool). This takes population representation into account also - but we still find there is a big imbalance currently - although is slowly being reduced over time largely correlated to racial barriers diminishing over many decades gradually in many places in the USA.

Example: Row boat analogy

Imagine two boats set off on a race. One boat has oars only. The other has oars and a sail. All other factors being equal. The boat with the sail has wind at the rowers back helping push him along faster - maybe on top of that he rows harder than the other boat with no sail/less wind at there back - maybe he does not. Maybe they both row equally.

Regardless - most of the time - irrespective (most of the time) of what that second rower with no sail does - the rower eith the sail will win easily most times a lot more than not. Imagine if he then turns to the rower with no sail and says "I won because I am better than you." Maybe its true - maybe its not. But either way you would find it very frustrating if someone effectively had pay to win given to them but not allowed it yourself - and the first person then acts oblvious to pay to win privilege and says ALL of his success is due to him and him alone.

Acknowledging white privilege does not mean you have to get rid of your sail if you are more privilidged or advantaged socioeconomically than someone else stsrting out - but it does acknowledge that some groups have a significantly harder time starting out in life than others - and seeking ways to help lift those people up too so we can enjoy society's beauty together.

@21cowboy21 I bet if you look at the percentage Pell grants and other scholarships given out between black and white you will find black kids get most of the money even though they make up a minority of the general population. I applied for a Pell grant once. I was met with the usual blank stare and bunch of excuses. I never saw any white privilege.

Why?

Because it is a manifestation of something whose origins are rooted in evolution:
"Majority privilege"

For example, in China, you are not going to experience "White privilege"; there, you enjoy "Chinese privilege" compared to Whites.

Obama is an example of black privilege. He was excepted to college not for any academic excellence but because he was black. Nobody has ever seen his college transcripts and anyone who went to Harvard at the same time he did has no recollection of him. He was truly an Affirmative Action president
