The USA and Russia will not go to war in my opinion. The west will just continue to give Ukraine weapons.

Russia has their hands full with Ukraine. What, 150,000 casualties so far, thousands of tanks destroyed, the country has sanctions... they have failed to take Kyiv.

Their hands are full.

Things like this happen, the USA shot down an Iranian jet liner once in the Persian Gulf, the USSR shot down a South Korean jet... things can get chippy but bending the prop on an unmanned jet won't lead to war.

Turkey hot down a Russian fighter jet a few years back. The jets were around Syria as part of that struggle and one got too close to Turkey's air space.

I don't think this will lead to anything serious long term.

if russia doesn't have drones i don't think that downing a drone in international airspace is a bad move. there are no real laws other than respecting others and they made it look like an accident. plus, i have seen on here, that russia doesn't have an airforce capable of doing this anymore. thoughts?

This video is a FAKE.

A 12-year-old with a video editor could have produced a more convincing fake than the one the government released. It is pretty clear that something went wrong with that drone and the US government decide to use the "self-destruct" feature, then blame the Russians.

Why would the Russians dump fuel on a drone and then supposedly collide with it (*very risky for the fighter jet) when a missile would do the job safely?

Colliding with ANYTHING with a plane is very likely to badly damage the plane and is never done on purpose. The SU-7 fighter has a very high stall speed, and even at that minimum flying speed, it is likely to get seriously damaged in a collision. Nobody will do this on purpose.

I think if it DID hit the drone it was an accident and not done intentionally. I also find it odd that only one blade of the propeller was bent. I've been in an aircraft accident with a prop strike and I can tell you every single blade was bent after a very brief encounter with the ground.

I agree the video is bizarre. The UAV was in international airspace which is why the Russians didn't just shoot it down. The fuel dumping is a crazy strategy.

Yeah, the DoD released it personally and had a huge press conf to get Russia to calm the fck down. Their pilot was trying to empty their fuel tank on our drone.

The ground is flat and solid, something thin and moving fast in the opposite direction could conceivably move past before the second blade reached it.

I think you're right that they didn't mean to hit it, but it was caused by reckless flying. There was a cable car brought down in Italy a while ago by a fighter pilot being a moron. It's not intentional, but it's not an accident, either.

Besides, don't you think the government could fake something at least as well as Hollywood can?
