IF reparations was a good idea, there are a few questions. . . IF this is supposed to be "fair":

1. How do you determine the amount? Is it the same amount for each individual?

2. Does it come from the US treasury? If not, what is the source of the payments?

3. There are about 40,000,000 black people in the US and the 2023 US federal budget is $136.7 billion. If we stopped ALL spending and JUST paid reparations, our budget would give each black person $3,417.50 per year. But people in California have said that even $5,000,000 wouldn't be adequate, and that would take 1,463 years at the rate of $3,417.50 per year. Do you have any suggestions?

4. If my ancestors owned 100 slaves and my neighbor's ancestors owned 10 slaves, am I responsible for paying 10 times as much as my neighbor? If a black person's ancestors owned slaves, do they qualify for reparations or must they PAY reparations to other black people?

5. If black people's ancestors came to the US after the Civil War and the end of slavery, are they eligible for reparations?

6. Do we deduct from the reparations all amounts that each black person received in welfare benefits?

7. Do we pay reparations to black people who are born next year and the years after?

8. When do we decide that we have paid enough reparations?

9. How will race relations look after reparations are being paid?

10. Chinese people have also been the object of racial prejudice. Should we pay reparations to them, also, or do we not pay reparations because most Chinese people have been successful despite the history of prejudice?

most of my family are immigrants. If you work hard, go to school and function successfully in the system or start a business, you will be very successful. the better your family values and ethics, the more success you will have. People can live a great middle class or high class life, in short time.

That is the solution, it works for everyone.

I don't see taking from some to give to others based upon location. If can trace back to specific instances, then ok.

There was a lot of oppression in the past, I could see a blanket payment for that for those directly involved, but how do you demonstrate who did what and what scenarios? One could argue, that has already been done via welfare systems.

American slavery was horrible, but I don't now how to undo that. There are many people in the US who are descendants of slaves AND slave owner. There are many people who don't even know their ancestry. There are many African Americans who are descendants of people who immigrated to the US after slavery ended. There are many people who are descendants of native Americans who were largely genocided if not as frequently enslaved.

Slavery was too long ago to figure out who owes who today. We can and should try to spend money in poor ares to improve conditions, but I don't think there is any way to make reparations work.

No. I grew up in the north east US. I know nothing about my ancestry more than 2 generation back, don't even know the names of 2 of my grandfathers. I'm mostly Caucasian, but with somewhat olive skin, maybe middle-eastern? I think one side of my family emigrated to the US in the 1920s Don't know anything about the other side.

My real point is that its all to complicated to unwind. Too many people are descended from both oppressed and oppressors, along with a lot of uninvolved.

The sunbelt migrate brought veterans south after WWII for more affordable housing with special loan programs and new job opportunities. This is why the south turned red and changed from Democrat KKK slave owners to Republican control. Most of the former Democrat plantation slaver owner after being financially wrecked during the civil war, move to places like New York, California, Michigan, etc. to find new opportunities. They got involved in road and bridge building projects, mining, and factory work. Your southerns of old live in California now. They are the Democrat party. The modern south are the Republicans that freed the slaves.

They aren't in the south anymore and haven't been for quite a while.
