+1 yI say yes and let the victims family decide how it is done, if they so want to, no input required just if they want to pick a method, that it be seriously considered.
I have never understood why when a criminal is so violent that they get a nice easy death. Much like the Hi-Fi murders back in the 70's. Seems to me those guys got off way too easy.
If it was up to me, I would give them a choice. Hand them a knife and say, you can kill yourself if not you will be Blood Eagled.
Generally non violent crimes don't end up with the death penalty. I am also a huge fan of if someone can undo what they did, they be given the chance to do that rather than go to prison. Such as a thief repaying their debt rather than going to prison.
Obviously that won't work to undo murders, rapes or other kinds of offenses.
No reason a victim should have a life sentence when the perpetrator does not. As long as a victim has to live with their sentence, so should the one who gave it to them.

@Aerissa_Jade I wouldn't even give them the option of killing themself. That would empower them and give them control over the situation. Their victims never had that option.
- +1 y
@Jamie05rhs I think many would find it hard to end their own life though, could be a tough decision to make, to kill yourself OR have someone do something far worse to you.

@Aerissa_Jade School shooters kill themselves all the time when they get cornered by the cops and they know they're about to get busted. They're cowards. (That's why they prey on children.)

@Jamie05rhs I'm not talking about them, I'm referring to those in prison waiting on death row.

For some reason they believe that even the most inhumane monsters to ever skulk this earth deserve a painless death…. even after what they did…00 Reply
+1 yI'm not a fan of the death penalty but if we are going to use it, it should be both painless and gruesome. Guillotine.
I think lethal injection is basically the worst possible option. The criminal is paralyzed so we can't see the agony they are in. Looks like they just fall asleep - yet they are being tortured
If we are willing to kill people, I want it to LOOK like we are killing people.

8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. There is no moral justification for any death penalty. One of the reasons why is because the government makes mistakes and sentencing innocent people to death is fairly regular. If even one innocent person is executed then quite frankly that is one too many.

Asker+1 yI agree partly but I also think the knowledge that one can die horribly will be a better deterrent than losing freedom
Asker+1 yThat was the purpose of public executions
- +1 y
Not to sound rude but I can tell you have not actually looked into this subject much. We known that the deterrent of punishment such as prison or the death penalty does not actually reduce future crime and we have known this as an objective fact for a very long time.
The death penalty has more to do with being a political tool rather than being a way to actually combat crime.
Asker+1 yyou're not rude at all, I never looked into numbers like that, just history
Asker+1 yAnd yes the thought of prison does reduce crime thats obvious
Asker+1 yA lot more people would be making money off of drugs and other illegal things, they dont have to be violent. People get real jobs because they know they can go to prison for easy money.
Asker+1 yIf there was no prison, easy money is worth it
- +1 y
Again, you would think that but it is simply not the case. I guess the easiest way to explain it, although perhaps not completely accurate, is that criminals do not plan on being caught regardless of what the punishment would be. It matters little to them if the punishment is death or prison if they think they can get away with it.
Either way, the data is pretty clear to there not being any major change in crime based on the punishment. Rather, things that reduces crime is often social policies like helping those in poverty and rehabilitation in prison so that they are less likely to commit a crime in the future.
Asker+1 yI have an example. I live in NJ and when I was younger there were only a few illegal marijuana companies. Now that you can't go to prison for a long time for pot in my state there's like a hundred all over my college and social media. Illegal vapes are just a petty example
Asker+1 yWhen I was in highschool you had to break an arm to find one
Asker+1 yAnd all of my friends are years older than me I have never looked for it with people my own age. Adults couldnt find any
Asker+1 ySelling it was still illegal but the people who didn't years before now know they can make a crap load of money knowing they won't go to prison for a decade
Asker+1 yNobody wanted that easy money before major prison was taken away
- +1 y
The reason there are so many marijuana dispensaries after it is being decriminalized is because of capitalism, not because of the punishment being removed. I dont particularly like capitalism but there is no denying that it is very effective at developing markets both new and old.
Since we are sort of going around in circles here ill just point out that there are plenty of studies that we could look at that proves that harsher punishments does not prevent future crime but its fairly dry reading so ill just link an article to start with:

Yeap. See this is what horrifies me about this "justice system". A man brutally rapes his victim, possibly knocking them up in an anti abortion state and/or giving them diseases and mental trauma. IF the guy goes to prison, the victims taxes now pay for him to live in relative comfort. 3 square meals a day, a bunk, showers, rec time, TV, free medical etc.
Asker+1 yIs am part of a few gore sites and in parts of Africa they chop off a rapists dong and puts them inside a car tire and 🔥🔥🔥

Lady, you have some real issues. 😳
6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Yes. If the accused is 100% guilty without any shadow of doubt. Not just convicted based on circumstantial evidence or beyond "reasonable" doubt.
00 Reply11.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. NO. The Constitution prohibits "cruel and unusual punishment". Your feelings about the crime don't count!
00 Reply8.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I don't trust my government enough to not use it against innocent people.

00 Reply18.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No. And this is why the death penalty is wrong.

Asker+1 yNothing wrong with a good hanging
Asker+1 y1% sucks but a lot of families would be satisfied
Asker+1 yIf it helps people move on and feel satisfied and adds a scare factor to getting in trouble i personally think its worth it
Asker+1 yWe already ruin innocent peoples lives putting them in a cell 80 years
Asker+1 yOnbiously i dont want to violently execute normal people. Everyone feels differently🤷♂️
Asker+1 yobviously
Asker+1 yWell im not executing anybody😂 I just think the benefits outweigh the price thats it
Asker+1 yA lot of unfortunate things happen in life i think its worth it , and im not crazy because half or more our country supports it
