Should people sentenced to life in prison be allowed to chose to be executed instead?

I think the treatment of inmates at some of the supermax prisons counts as "inhumane". I mean I get that these people are there because they have committed horrible acts and if the security was more laxed, these dangerous inmates can get out and kill again so it's not just about punishment. But IF you have to keep people in this kind of hell to keep the rest of us safe, for many incarcerated it's a fate worse than death. So I think at the very least they should be allowed to chose to be executed (and I say this as someone who opposes the death penalty as a mandate).

Why not just make prisons better. Like it shouldn't be a vacation hotel, but the point of prison isn't to torture people. If testimony from inmates are revealing inhumane conditions, that's a problem that needs to be fixed about the conditions. Not by killing the people. Someone from another country was literally prevented from being sent to America because the prison they would have ended up in broke the other countries

Country's* human rights laws. Prisoners are still human and should be treated as such. Why would the solution to their inhuman treatment be to kill them?

Definitely. Not only would it free up space for new inmates, but it would also get rid of scum from the world. People with life sentences sometimes get let out of prison, and then repeat the same offence and end up back in prison. So why not just let them die if it’s what they want, instead of wasting resources on them.

Costs money to execute people. And the due process costs even more. Look it up. Death penalties are 10x more expensive than life in prison. Let them do it. Or eat the roach apple sauce.

You haven’t the faintest idea what you’re talking about. Apologies. Due process isn’t asked for, it’s given automatically. And attorneys assigned by the court (often in opposition to convict) does everything possible to get his client off death row.

You're missing the point. If someone is sentenced to life in prison due process is said and done. I'm asking if people sentenced to life in prison should be able to CHOSE to be executed as opposed to spending the rest of their life in prison.

Sigh…APPEALS aren’t done for people convicted to life either. And due process also protects prisoners in jail.

Besides, rather the convict wants to be executed or not, we as humans are flawed, and so by simple logic will have killed (and HAVE killed) innocent people.
