I'm genuinely curious if anyone has data about tiktok censoring news.

I remember being genuinely surprised how much genuinely valuable, educational material is on there.

I went on there expecting it to be a bunch of bots and propaganda (which, that stuff is definitely sprinkled around) but it's a place where people can post whatever they want. Sometimes I go on the live streams and swipe through and there's a hundred live streams where the host just invites random people on to have a civilized and relatively respectful debate about some hot button issue you're not supposed to talk about.

It's very scary to me as an American that the best place to go for free speech and many verifiable news stories you don't easily come across anywhere else is an app affiliated with China and being treated by congress the way it is.

Also tiktok most likely doesn't give any more information than what Twitter, Instagram or facebook do.

I think the reason congress is trying to shut down tiktok is because they don't want us talking to eachother and getting along. They can't just cancel people before they get popular if they're on an app that's not controlled by the government.

Maybe China is trying to show us in a cheeky way just how similar we are to them already.

by the way, Tiktok is international.

Anyway. All media collects data. Its seems like Americans are doing it the most: Google, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, etc., etc.

And look what's happening on them... Seems like people are in terrible states because of them apps.

I'm not defending Tiktok. Its mind-rot. I deleted it a week later. Unfortunately, other apps are doing the same concept. And i don't like it. My brain feels hacked.

And the fake news, yeah they're making their rounds but it's more the stupidity of a lot of humans and naively just believing everything. It just shows how stupid most people are... if you ask me.

I think it is weird how Americans are one of the biggest conspiracy theorists, and they create these far fetched conspiracies that make no sense, but the actual conspiracies they complete miss, even when it is obvious

Censoring news? LOL You're likely to get more real shit on TT from real people posting than you can ever hope to get on Fox, Newsmax, CNN, MSNBC or any major TV network. Obviously, it should never be your only source for information, but no one source EVER should be, coach!

Hey, if the Chinese want the info on my phone, let them have it. I keep nothing of value on it. As to shopping habits, Amazon and all the other harvesters know just as much. LOL

As for politics, they're not going to suddenly turn me against my government, as IF I don't already know what goes on in my government? Pulleeeeeeeeeze. Zuckerberg didn't throw millions and millions of dollars behind a campaign to get TT banned because "he was worried about national security" LOL

We all heard the fuss but do we honestly believe there is anything left that is private? I don’t have TikTok because I think it’s for kids from what I hear and I doubt I’m gonna learn anything from it, my 11 year old keeps me up to speed with all the memes and other shenanigans.

I might try TikTok the old geezer edition with less sparkles and snapchat like poses if they ever release one.

As far as privacy I believe it’s a relative term i ran a utility that monitors every connection request made by apps on my phone I get notified and I chose to allow it or not. The results are terrifying if anyone really concerned about their privacy get a flip phone from a yard sale if you can find one but If you need to be connected your other option is a Blackberry if you have time to go to college and study how to operate that thing.

here's a question.. what isn't collecting data on you? Can in point. Im in Walmart, I get a notification about motor oil, an hour later Im in CVS, I get a notification on cough meds. No matter where you go, what you do, you are being monitored.

And I agreed that it's addicting.

But out of all the social medias I've been on, I would say that TicTok by far does the least censoring. It's not even comparable. And I think that's why our government wants it taken down so bad.
