Have you ever witnessed anyone being pulled over by a cop making an illegal U-turn?

I make illegal u turns all the time. In fact i think i even did it right in front of a cop once and they did nothing lol.

I've also never seen anyone pulled over for this. Have you?

I got pulled over for it once, lmao.

I’m actually a very safe driver and I try not to break any driving rules, for safety more than for respect of authority. But one day I was about 45 minutes from home finalizing a car purchase, and on my way home, in one of my last rides in the first car I ever had, I had to take the state turnpike, just going like two minute to the next exit to connect me to my local highway. I was also almost out of gas.

So, it wasn’t my usual neck of the woods, and after going through the tollbooth, I realized too late that I was in the wrong lane for the on-ramp I needed, and ended up going the opposite direction. I had planned to get gas as soon as I got off the turnpike, after the one exit. I could’ve done the same going the wrong way, except the other direction, the next stop was 30 MILES. So I was stuck, no rest stops until that next rest area.

I had to make a decision to go for the median through the U-turn, rather than just run out of gas on the highway in the middle of the wilderness. I waited for one when there was a break in traffic, and when no one was close behind me in the left lane, and made the move. Totally perfect maneuver, no one would’ve had to adjust their speed or anything, I’m sure of it. I’m talking like 3 football fields.

Annnnndddddd of course that next group of cars 3 football fields down included a state trooper, who caught up to me and pulled me over. I explained the situation, pointed to my gas meter, and these guys patrol that very highway, so they know better than anyone that I couldn’t have made it. He wasn’t a dick, necessarily, not in his demeanor, anyway. But I would’ve let me slide if I was in his shoes, given the circumstances and that no one was endangered, but he came back with a $50 ticket. Said “I’ll do what I think is right, you do what you think is right”, and I think I just said “fuck it” and paid the ticket. Not worth trekking to a courthouse or the RMV over, haha.

Yeah, you have to try though, like I was in the far right lane behind a cop and realized I missed my turn, so after the light turned green I crossed three lanes to make the u-turn.

He gave me a ticket, but mostly because I had a busted windshield among other things and looked suspicious rather than the u-turn itself.

I do it all the time, I don't give a fuck... unless there's a cop near by lol. I need to get where I need to go and no one gonna make me late or lost even more lol.
