Why is there romance fiction that gets our hopes up?

It's called "fiction" for a reason.
But nowadays most people are so absorbed by those fantasies, that they no longer are able to discern reality from fantasy and so lead fantasy-driven and factually hollow lives.
Marx said that religion was the opium for the masses, but now videogames, TV series, fiction, anime and porn are the opium of our Century; and people are just desperate addicts. And addicts are notoriously difficult to save, and most of the time they aren't even worth it.
I’d like to put some blame on the content creators because the masses are victims. Like with drugs, I don’t blame the users first. They are victims of the dealers and cartels who make the drugs. If the source of the unhealthy consumable is eliminated, people will be spared that (particular) addiction.
But ultimately this is also sort of a fantasy because there will be no end of addict-types and making things to be addicted to.
The biggest fault in my opinion resides in the consumers. They allow it, they consume and just want more.
Everything has a market because people will pay money for it. The masses have no one to blame but themselves.
Even kids?
Blame the parents.
Makes sense.
Son, you must be home schooled. It's why you never got to walk into a library and see "romance" is in the "fiction" section of all libraries.
Yes, you'll need ice cubes for a few days to heal that burn, and your ego will not recover pre-burn. But seriously, if you take TV and books as accurate representations at all times, then you're naïve and are going to struggle in life.
No I wasn’t home schooled. I went to school from preschool to college.
But I did watch too much tv and didn’t go outside enough.
Because there are a lot of hopeless romantics out there that will eat this stuff up and therefore romance fiction is at the top of the list to sell to teens/young adults.
Sounds a bit like unethical exploitation to me. Taking advantage of the optimism of adolescents in an ultimately negative and hollow way. One could argue it has lead to many murders and rapes and abuse and suicide because this stuff creates “nice guys”. (I don’t know if there’s a female equivalent to nice guys) It’s creating a time bomb out of people. People’s unrealistic expectations are shattered and they snap.
No one is forcing you to read it or watch it.
I should’ve mentioned that the romance fiction I am referring to is sun-components in movies or show like action or sci-fi. So I didn’t watch the movies I watched for the romance. Other reasons made me WANT to watch certain movies.

I guess it's because romance books, romance films, sell, and the fill a void for the ones wanting that escapism or that fictional fun ☺️😊
Cause they only show leading up the romance. They don’t show 6 months to year later.
