So all a marriage is in modern day America, is a way for a woman to have a man by the balls and if he doesn't consent to the theft of his assets, then he will be kidnapped at gunpoint and then put in a cage where he will be raped.

Completely correct. As the marriage rate has dropped like a girls panties at a frat party, the government has had to get more creative to transfer wealth and labor from men to women. In many states (Texas for example) you don't need to get married to face the consequences of "divorce". If you jokingly refer to your girlfriend as your "wife" in public, in Texas, that is the effectively a "marriage" and when you break up she can sue for "divorce". Think I am crazy? To be enforceable, each party consults independent legal counsel, makes written financial disclosures to the other, and then signs the agreement at his or her attorney's office. @KrakenAttackin It seems that this decision is based on an Ontario law that creates a common-law marriage after three years. I am not aware of any US state which still recognizes common-law marriage. I know that the courts in California have awarded "palimony" in some cohabitation cases (most notably, against Lee Marvin) but that is left coast judicial activism and I am not aware of other states following that trend.

The law in Canada is strange in many respects and I am damned happy to be an American.

By the way, I never cared about virginity. I think the idea of female "purity" is absurd. None of my girlfriends were virgins.

I had girlfriends, but didn't rush into marriage until I, myself, was mature enough, had experienced the unfettered exuberance of youth, and was ready to begin a new chapter in my life. I finally decided that I wanted to find a trusted partner to spend the rest of my life with.

I've been married now for almost 26 years. We both had full lives before we met.
We have built a great life together and had LOTS of fun along the way. All of our resources go to supporting our mutual life style and building a future together. There is no greed or jealousy. We have mutual respect for each other. She is my equal partner, my best friend and confidant. We work together as a team. Neither is the boss of each other. That's my idea of an ideal marriage. I am grateful to have a wife to spend the rest of my life with. I would be miserable to be alone.

Are you saying it's fair that a man can just dump her and leave her high and dry and move on with his life after taking the best years of her life. She's no longer young or of child bearing age? She no longer has the ability to build a career.
They built that life together. Now he's going to leave her with nothing?

The same thing applies if he turns out to be selfish or abusive. Is she just supposed to stick with him because she has no other prospects? Or is she entitled to half of what they built together while partners?

It's like a business partnership. One partner can't simply kick the other out without paying compensation.

I'm sure that there are some women who marry men for money. You see examples in Hollywood. And when the two separate after a few years because they are both self-centered and egotistical, the women try to profit. But in cases like that, I would say that those men married for the wrong reasons in the first place.

People don't have to get married if they don't want to. But there is always the issue of palimony. And both men and women can benefit from divorce or palimony settlements, depending on the circumstances.

Aside from being a contract, marriage has other legal benefits. Taxes, Social Security benefits, inheritance, legal decision-making benefits as next of kin, and hospital visitation rights, for example.

There is peace of mind in being married. Again, some people consider it to be a solemn vow, a pledge of honor, a promise to love and honor their spouse until death. A lot of people take that seriously. It's the ultimate commitment that inspires a desire and effort to make the partnership work.

And yes, the prospect of financial consequences, the loss of assets - savings, house and possessions; and often, in the case of wives, the loss of security and the inability to provide for themselves – is an incentive to make the partnership work. You can’t just simply walk away without consequences.

I would also say for the Christian divorce is not an option outside of infidelity or spousal abandonment according to scripture. That doesn’t mean Christians don’t disobey God in this area either, but if they seriously mean to follow Christ, this should rarely happen. There is a big distinction between those who believe in God and what Scripture teaches and those who actually do what it says. Many believe, few actually live out their beliefs in serious dedication. For those who do, they are probably genuine Christians. For those who don’t, they deny the faith they claim to follow if they constantly do not obey the commands of their lord.

As a married man I am not afraid of that in the slightest.
First, she makes more money than me. If we split up things get split up evenly so I actually get more.
Second, I can do what my father did. Refuse to pay. Don't think that cops come to your door as soon as you don't pay. You have to fight it in court that can drag on for a long time. By simply paying only when the court forced him he was able to not pay nearly half of what he should have.
