How would you feel about "America The Beautiful" replacing "Star Spangled Banner " as the US National Anthem?

It is a good song and really captures America. Ray Charles does an amazing job with it.

However, Francis Scott Key wrote a classic during the days of the Revolutionary War and reminds each American of our roots and how precious and how precarious our way of life is.

I've always been pissed that I was required to take the "pledge of allegiance" - an *OATH* when I was so young that I didn't know what the words meant (thought andtotherepublic was a single word I didn't know). I take oaths very seriously.

I agree, I didn't really think about it when I was in grade school, because it was sort of just instilled in us. But i stopped standing for it when I got to high school, and there was another kid in my Spanish class who always sat and kept his hat one. My Spanish teacher didn't care, but there were some asshole counselors and security guards who would always make you stand, and one of the counselor's even made my grown-ass mom stand. My mom wasn't even born here, so why should she pledge allegiance to our flag. She said it was the first time she's ever seen anything like this.
I feel I could probably get away with it more now, that it's become more mainstream.

So I don't necessarily disapprove of the anthem protests, but I disapprove of the reasons they're protesting. But it's not like we chose to be born here. So people are under no obligation to love their country.

I DO agree, that they should at least give us the history and meaning behind it, instead of just blindly forcing us to do it. I think American people are patriotic to the point where it gets ridiculous.

It would be a fitting song. I think it was actually considered as a candidate for our national anthem before the Star Spangled Banner was selected in 1931.

LMAO! Me and my dad used to sing and listen to this when I was younger. I won't even deny that this would actually be really fitting and appropriate for us. Maybe change some of the lyrics to, "I butcher the name of the country I bomb. I don't practice what I preach, but hey I'm the bomb!"

that debate has been going on since I was a little kid and probably longer.
It hasn't changed since it was adopted as out NA, and I highly doubt it ever will change.
