If I won the lottery, I’m not even sure I would claim the prize money because I think money is useless when you have more than what you need. I believe people who can buy yachts and designer clothes become accustomed to it, and it becomes just another ordinary event for them, just like coffee and oatmeal is a plain Jane event.

It all comes down to how money changes people, and through looking at the number one fact that over 90% of people who win the lottery, wind up worse off than before they had the money. It's a fact that you can actually look up. If you don't have a plan ahead of time, you're most likely to loose it.

It's a spin on the old phrase about love but different. 'It's better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.' However, a lot of people tend to think, 'it's better to take the money, have a good time spending it, and just be glad you had the ride.'

In truth, you should talk to a financial planner, at a minimum, before you spend anything. Another possibility, find a bank or financial institution with a good interest rate. Even better if it compounds the interest quarterly or better. Live off the interest.

But then again, who am I? Just a girl, with a double major in math and computers, and a minor in finance. Just trying to help.

If I won the lottery there is so many things I would do with it that wouldn't involve myself such as giving back to my community through building businesses, give to various charities, give money to the poor, get as many people off the street as possible. There's a gang of homeless people out there that have families that that money would have great use for.

I would absolutely claim it. There's no moral victory in letting the lottery commission keep it. They just award it to a second person. I give a lot to various charities and I could do a whole lot more with lottery winnings. I agree that the more you have of something the less special it is, but it's what you do with it that makes money different. 10 Versace suits vs $1000 to pay for a vet bill... the former is "worth" more than the latter, but the latter has far more value to me. Now scale that up to lottery winning sizes...
