Do you agree that senior citizens have the right to hold back being courteous to others?

I was also walking on a sidewalk and moved aside as we were approaching each other. The old woman saw me coming but didn't give me room to share the sidewalk even though I already gave her room.

They just never learned courtesy.

They are aware but choose to be selfish and will grow more and more selfish.

Just take into consideration that they're old and we have have to be kind to them.

Courteous or not, they should just die already.

I think most seniors are just bitter. It usually stems from the fact that they have dementia or other mental illness that can make them irritable. However all in all they should still be respectful and considerate.

Of course, we'd like to extend our kindness to them as a sign of respect to them for being elderly but some (now growing numerous numbers) of them are awfully inconsiderate to others.

It depends what you mean by "okey." Okey as in you don't punish them or give them legal problems, then that is the recommended approach to treating others. Okey as in you think it's morally correct to be rude to somebody because society will tolerate it and not punish you for it, it's not morally correct, even if you are never punished for being rude and mean to others. Human relationships are based on the idea you treat people well, even if there is no immediate or obvious reward or punishment dictating how you act.

If you understood that the elderly need extra room, then you should be understanding when she takes extra room. She probably needed it.

But I can’t fathom why it would upset you…and send you to complain about it on the internet. No matter whether the other person on the sidewalk with you was a cruel-hearted monster -or whatever- having to step off the sidewalk is not something worth thinking about.

I think everyone should be courteous. Age is not an excuse unless its a child, or someone with dementia. That said, very elderly people may not be as aware of their surroundings due to vision and hearing issues, so they may not be being intentionally discourteous

Not sure age Is an issue. I often walk off the sidewalk when passing others, it’s not a big deal
