actually what I ment by the other part of the sentence is that not every victim of murder is innocent , the one gets to be killed sometimes isn't the innocent one

The only justifiable reason for killing someone is if they have forced a kill or be killed situation. This is ultimately the fundamental flaw with the death penalty: it requires a person to carry out the murder of someone who poses no threat to them. There is no moral justification for that. It makes no difference to most of society whether they are either confined for the rest of their lives or killed off so erring on the side of murder is unjustified.

Moreover, the people it does make a difference to are those who might follow that person. Killing their figurehead makes them a martyr, placing them in the realm of mysticism and the memories of those who agreed with such a monster. But if you just let the person live and die for their natural life span, you inflict the "never meet your heroes" effect on those followers.

Though, I would say if there are any crimes where the death penalty might be justified it is for pedos and cops who abuse their power. Those who steal from the future should be denied access to it as soon as possible.

I would say that makes sense. Some people murdered out of self-defense, or in the defense of others. That doesn't make them a cold-blooded criminal. And yes, not every murderer is innocent. In fact most are not, but you still have the situations like I stated above.

But here's a deeper one: you can be a murderer without having ever killed anybody. Murder doesn't even have to involve a physical intent to end a life with a weapon.

It depends what your definition of murder is. Is a judge who sentences somebody to death row a murderer? Is somebody who murders their daughter’s rapist a murderer? Is somebody who kills an enemy at war a murderer? Is somebody who tortures an intruder that threatens to hurt their family a murderer? To me, this is most likely a terminology question rather than a moral one. The general consensus agrees that killing people who are not criminals or war adversaries is never justified and I would say you think that too.

Though often Manslaughter is thrown aside and they call it murder anyway. As the courts don't really care about justice but more getting rid of the problem and murder carries a longer charge.
The amount of times I've seen evidence that proves something wasn't planned yet gets deemed cold calculated murder is ridiculous.

So this is one of those word play things which pretends to be deep and meaningful but isn't really.

Maybe I am being a little harsh because there is a message or argument in there somewhere with some validity but as presented this is actually just jibberish.

Even with the posted correction this is completely inaccurate because by definition murderer means criminal, so its just wrong, all murderers by definition are criminals because thats what that word means. To correct it you would have to say something like 'killers' but now already all the wind is now gone from the sails of this text, no one need care if the statement is true because the mitigating factors are more obvious; maybe it is self defence or the killer is a doctor, vet, solider etc.

Then you end up in a position where you are confusing legality with morality and the waters are muddied further and you end up having to face the reality that actually its complex subject with many variables and this punchy catchphrase dies at the wayside.

As a retired Peace Officer who has on occasion ended lives; 'homicide' is NOT identical to 'murder'. Except in Viet Nam, I have NEVER began my day INTENT upon taking something I cannot give back.

Criminal and innocent are subjective.
If a solder is fighting in a war and murders someone, he is considered a criminal by some, but not by others.
If we suppose he kills another soldier, again, some would see that person as a war hero who sacrificed himself for his country.. and others would see him as a force trying to murder their friends and family.

Definition of a murder is someone who kills another illegally. So say slave owner George Washington back 1785 decided to blow one of his slave's brainsout on the porch of the White House that would not be murder because it was legal.

I disagree with the first part. Murder is a crime so someone who is a murderer IS a criminal. I agree with second part for the same reason... a murderer is always guilty of the crime, otherwise they wouldn't be a murderer.

The second part is the majority of murderers, I bet. I agree. Murderers can kill out of self defense, I believe they're criminals. But it's still murder.
