Yes. To both.

As someone who was raised lower middle class in my mind but was actually probably closer to poor and has achieved statistical success. I say "statistical" because by most metrics on on the verge of wealthy or am wealthy. But in my mind I will always be blue collar. It's just how I'm wired.

I worked hard for all I have. But I also think I've been EXTREMELY fortunate. a lot of cards just happened to fall my way in life.

Compare that to my sister who had the same upbringing as me but was also born with a chronic illness and has declared bankruptcy TWICE.

From my vantage point is both are a factor. I would have NEVER achieved what I have without the effort I put forth. But I would also have never achieved what I have without luck.

It's material conditions and generational wealth. It's 100x more expensive being broke then being rich.

Can't afford a bed you pay with a fucked up back. Can't afford a regular dentist and pay for every tooth to get pulled out. Can't afford for shoes and you pay fucked up feet.

The rich will get endless amout of free shit. They get free smart phone from Android with millions of dollars just to tweet how cool it its and the tweet ends with sent on iPhone. With no repercussions.

Some people stay poor because they don't know what to do to get out of poverty. Is not their fault. Maybe they've never been to exposed to other opportunities and do not have enough resources to escape it.

there are circumstances where some people are born in shitty situations and are unable to not accumulate money due to factors outside of their control e. g. they live in a warzone, parents can barely afford food/water let alone proper education, education system teaches irrelevant shit, employers won't hire them due to uncontrollable factors i. e. their facial appearance, the color of their skin etc.

It depends on the person. Some people are born unlucky, they are born into a situation that they cannot leave (think the untouchables of the Indian caste system), they're unlucky enough to have their job become obsolete (assembly line workers), they are born into a society that practices systemic racism to keep certain people from becoming successful (USA, South Africa, Australia), or they were affected by an unforeseeable event that bankrupted them (medical debt, economic crash, debilitating accident). Others, however, do only have themselves to blame, they squander their money on untreated addiction (alcohol, gambling, drugs, porn), they live way above their means (trying to keep up with the Jones'), they make bad financial decisions (joining a mlm), or just don't ever put in the effort to get a job, go to school, or do anything with their life.

For the large majority of people in a first world country, yes. Almost anyone can easily get out of poverty if they really wanted to to. They don't by choice. I've met extremely few people in my life who didn't have a choice being poor. Most poor people make all kinds of excuses - but when I listen to those excuses, they almost never really prevent a person from making their life better.

I think there are people out there tha tjust do not want to work. I know somebody like that. She wants to have a career in fitness but is not willing to do the work. She has a whole bunch of friends that are like that too. They all have a patchwork of income streams and nobody owns a home or had a 5 day a week job.

Biut there are people that seem to have bad luck. I know people that are wealthy because they worked for the right company at the right time.

As with everything, it'll be a mix of factors; some will be circumstance, others will be self imposed.

A lot of poor people make consistently bad financial choices that prevent them from building equity.

A lot of poor people are making those consistently bad financial choices because they are under pressure from their life situation and they jump at things without really thinking things through.

The cycle of poverty is a very real thing!

It's about 99% luck. I am comfortable and it's all luck. I was lucky to have a talent that is currently in high demand and short supply. I am lucky that when I was depressed I didn't fall into alcohol or drug addiction. I am lucky that I was born to a family that supported me through college.

It's rarely a clear yes or know with factors within and not within the person's control contributing. Having said that, given the current economic situation I would say that there are way more people living in poverty than their should be

Poverty is not a monolith and it often isn't a permanent condition. It stands to reason, though, that sometimes it is largely their fault, depending on the circumstances.
