I got pulled over about 30 minutes ago by and unmarked police car because my tints were too dark. 🙄
I hate that damn tint law. I don't like people seeing me in my car at all. I like my privacy while driving.

The windshield and front door windows shouldn't be too darkly tinted for several reasons.
- If you are walking, riding a bike, or driving a car or motorcycle, you can't tell if the driver is paying attention and sees you.
- Police can't spot illicit activity like drinking alcohol, smoking dope, or texting or talking on the phone while driving.
- If the police are searching for a suspect, they can't identify people in cars.
- If the police stop next to a parked car in the middle of nowhere, they can't see if anyone is inside.
- If the police pull someone over, they can't see what the person is doing or if they have a firearm. That endangers police and puts them on high alert. It endangers police and the driver.
I wouldn't want cops approaching my car with guns drawn just because they couldn't see in my window.
Unfortunately, you are operating in a public space, the streets, and others have to be able to see THROUGH your car windows so they can drive safely.
Your car is not a house. You have complete privacy in your house. But your house isn't rolling down the street. Also, if you are stopped by a law officer, that officer needs to be able to see into your car for their safety.
Driving is a public practice that requires the visibility of cars and their practitioners for everyone's safety. If you don't want to be seen, stay home and enjoy your privacy there.
Driving is a pubic practice and privilege. This is why you have a state license, you pay fees for license plates and driver's licenses, and you have automobile insurance. One of the rules is no black-out tints because it compromises safety and the visibility for other cars around you.
I don’t know, I like when people smile at the stop light in the car next to me. Also I have to drive the truck with tint with the windows down to see at night. 🙄
The good things are it keeps everything a bit cooler inside and no one knows what you get upto inside 😉
The biggest issue is that others have used the dark windows to get away with stuff, and as well as when something was going on involving the vehicle and it is stopped officers can not see the occupants or what they are up to.
It is also for their safety.
Imaging you were pulled over for a simple traffic violation.
Instead of an officer routinely getting out of their car and approaching your vehicle, they now have to treat it like a felony stop and call in more cars and have you exit the car at gun point.
At night, foggy, inclement weather it can also limit your vision.
Just wear a hoodie and a mask so others won't know who you are.

Yeah, I hate that. I want to tint my windows so bad, just for sun protection more than anything, but I also consider my vehicle as an extension of my home, so I don’t want anyone to be able to see me or what I’m doing in my car, even if I’m doing nothing. I need to be able to be invisible in public.
I think not.
*It enables law enforcement to see inside your car at a stop, in the case you are brandishing a firearm.
*It facilitates safe driving both for the driver (better visibility for him) and others. When I ride motorcycles, it is critical I see a driver to gauge if they have seem me approaching when hey are about to pull into traffic. Less tint gives the driver better visibility and I can see him or her. In Leftist states, tint is regulated, area where a MAGA like me feels they got it right.
The law could then be if pulled over you must put your windows down before a cop approaches vehicle.
I can see where there may be trouble seeing out your windows at night with really dark tint. Where I live you can have your windows tinted except the windshield and 2 front windows so that you can see into your side mirrors. That is definitely for night driving safety.
Can you blame them for having such a law? I mean you have criminals who often sometimes use dark tints on their cars to try and get away with murder and other crimes. Also not being able to see in your car makes it more dangerous for the officer and I'm sure more people could potentially be getting shot.
I won't tint my windows past a certain degree, because if I get pulled over for any reason, I don't want the police to be nervous over not being able to see me. Regardless of any law. I don't want the police to think they are going to have a gun pulled on them or whatever. I respect law enforcement and I think they have a right to be vigilant.
I can see both sides. I agree with the privacy thing that they should be as dark as you’re comfortable with, but also I can see why having a lighter tint is beneficial too. Mostly for the cops if they want to see the state of a driver on the road. Also more people would do dumb shit like texting while driving or drinking while driving If their windows couldn’t be seen into.
The purpose of the no-tint law is so drivers behind you can see through your car. It's for safety.
Makes no sense.
That law and other dumb ones like it are just ways for cops to extract more money from people.
I'd want it to be legal but the reason it isn't is specifically for cops, they want to be able to see inside the vehicle so I can understand it tbh but If it wasn't I'd have one way glass installed on my shit 😂
Pretty sure the tint law is mostly over a bunch of safety concerns, so I say keep it. I suspect human can survive and thrive just fine without excessively tinted windows.
apparent no because you're a man and men can't have privacy anymore because of certain "suspicions". now if you were a woman your privacy would be respected
Police dont want guns lining up shots on there head. Only way to know is seeing in the window.
Blame the second amendment for why we can't have nice things.
mine are dark like the car in the picture (though it's hard to tell because the photo's in the dark) and i've never had any problem
No, not here in California, you cannot darken the front windows nor the windshield. California vehicle code.
Sucks.
Shouldn’t be tinted at all. One reason why police and highway patrol unfortunately keep getting shot because they can’t see the suspects in the car getting a gun ready to fire as soon as that tinted side window rolls down. 😞💔
Tinted windows can be dangerous for night driving.
Have you thought about wearing a helmet or a mask? Your ''privacy'' ( in PUBLIC traffic) would be safe.
Yes it’s your car why shouldn’t you be able to do whatever you want with your car
A situation that needs to be banned. While murder, rape and abduction incidents occur every second in the world we live in, it is very normal for an invisible car to create doubt.
That reason isn't good enough as cars have trunks.
No, it should not. And the police were correct to pull you over. Try being a law abiding citizen next time and you won't get in trouble.
this is not the first time you've had police trouble related to your driving and cars. stop what you are doing
No. But I don't think car dealers should be allowed to sell cars with illegal tint.
You knew the the law and chose to break it.
No, absolutely not.
Absolutely not!
Why not?
Depends on state laws
Yes it should.
