+1 yWhat I feel doesn't really matter more than what the law states. I'm ok with him subduing him to keep his merch, even though this could be unsafe for the owner, that is his choice to defend his store. After subduing someone that didn't physically assault you, or try to physically harm you, what's the law say about beating a guy in this situation? That matters too if you're for rule of law. Taking matters into your own hands does have limitations legally too.
Do you believe he has the right to assault a man and beat him for stealing cigarettes? If you do please show me the law that supports that.
I'm not defending the guy stealing. He deserves punishment and I'm ok with him being subdued and held down. I'm not for people assaulting others because they feel they're in the right. That goes for all situations in riots and looting too. There are lines that get crossed.
I'm not a law expert but I think the store owner went too far legally speaking.

If someone comes into your place and steals stuff from you, destroy things or hurt anyone, you have the right to shoot them.
- +1 y
Do you have a law the supports that? I'm asking because I don't know laws in every state. Are you saying if someone steals something from a stationary store the owner can kill you?
- +1 y
I don't exactly know with stores but, if someone breaks into your house while you're there and you catch them, you have every right to shoot them. I've even heard people threaten to kill a trespasser and then drag their body into the house! I can only suppose that, if it works for your house, it should work for your store! What if you lived behind or upstairs of the store? That's your house!
- +1 y
That is not true in every state about someone who breaks in your home. That I know for sure but that's not the question or the scenario here.
Stay on point lol. The store owner can't legally beat someone into a pulp or kill them because someone stole from him. You might think well that's what you get mentality but that's not legal. So if you're about rule of law then you can't be ok with the behavior of the thief or store owner/manager.
Again I'm not defending the thief it the store owner. I think they're both wrong in the eyes of the law unless legally there's something I don't know. - +1 y
So if I'm not clear the store owner in most states can retain the thief not shoot them or beat them unconscious.
- +1 y
Turns out that guy had stolen from that store twice before the same day. The same day. This was his third time in that store that day. The third time in the same day.
As the ol' baseball adage goes: "Three strikes and you're out!" - +1 y
@NYCQuestions1976 Sure. I get wanting to beat him but that doesn't make it legal either. Detain him but don't beat him to near death. If anyone can share a law that says otherwise then I'll just say I'm wrong legally speaking. Otherwise it doesn't matter what vigilante justice anyone thinks is ok.
- +1 y
Near death? That's a bit dramatic. He never hit him above the waist.
These two guys were robbed twice earlier in the same day by the same guy before what transpired in this video. Even the most pacifist peaceful passive people have a breaking point. - +1 y
@NYCQuestions1976 my apologies you replied to a conversation and I thought you were another person who made reference to he should have or could have done worse. Sorry for the confusion
That said he should have definitely detained him in this scenario. - +1 y
It's all good. I agree that we can't live in a vigilante society, but it's difficult to criticize victims defending themselves and even going on the offensive when they've been push too far and criminals are basically free to do whatever they want with very little legal repricussions.
- +1 y
@NYCQuestions1976 Yeah it is tough to feel bad sometimes but I think it's important to distinguish that you can start out as the victim and still end up the bad guy too. We have to be critical of ourselves even in the most vulnerable moments and know the difference between right and wrong. The legal system isn't perfect but we are all exposed to the worst on the news. No one is reporting the thousands of criminals that don't get away with it every day on the news. Regardless I understand what you're saying. It's hard not to be frustrated.

I wish they had crippled him and tossed him in a dumpster.
Those Sikhs deserve a reward.
Nothing makes me happier than watching robbers getting FUCKED up and even filled with holes if they are armed. I love watching them writhing on the ground in agony and terror before they die. And I don't care if they are 14 years old.
I have zero sympathy for them. The world needs to be rid of that trash. And the judicial system does a shit job.10 Reply

he went pretty overboard the robber was already the ground defenseless and couldn’t move he should have just called the cops the robber had no weapons he just came in and tried to take cigarettes and then got pinned downed and beat with a stick even after he stopped “resisting” since he tried to get away from getting beat with a stick

Yeah? Well, guess who's gonna have to clean up that mess and restock all those shelves he emptied!! I'd be severely pissed, too!!
If that's anything like the 7-11 I used to work at, it's gonna get SWAMPED around 1:00 a. m.!! Most of them are gonna want ciggies and you CAN'T be busy stocking the shelves, sorting out all those ciggies and wait on customers!! - +1 y
@Lokiion So he just "tried to take cigarettes"? That all? Cigarettes are anywhere from $15 to $20 a pack, depending on the location. He had at least 200 packs of cigarettes in that can. That's $3,000 to $4,000 of merchandise, the value of some used cars. Maybe next time that guy will have flashbacks of getting beat with a stick the next time he decides to try to commit grand larceny. These two guys are heroes and deserve a metal.
- +1 y
@NYCQuestions1976 the over exaggerating is pretty crazy he had no were near 200 packs
- +1 y
Exaggerating? No. Did you watch the entire video?
- +1 y
HALF THE GARBAGE CAN was filled with them!! I'd bet he had closer to 300!!

1.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I support the store owner 100%, the crim made the fundamental error of of trying to rob the store belonging to a Sikh family - Sikh's are a warrior people, the crim got what he deserved and he'll remember the beating a hell of a lot more than any prison sentence. Pity more store owners are not prepared to do the same.

The liberals (aka losers) are going to hate it.

+1 yThey did one thing wrong. They never called the police.
03 Reply- +1 y
I actually thought not calling the police showed compassion on their part. They just told him to leave and never come back. Besides... with all of the bail reform and the lack of prosecution when it comes to crimes like shoplifting, it's not like he would've spent any time in jail anyway. This took place in California.
- +1 y
@NYCQuestions1976 Yeah, what was I thinking? I like how the guy with the camera is like "It's fine, let him take what he wants." and the other guys are like "No, we have a baseball bat."
- +1 y
The guy said nothing the entire time. Teddy Roosevelt vibes. "Speak softly and carry a big stick."
Would you be that elated if the thief was white?
02 Reply- +1 y
Sure would!! Why? What does skin colour have to do with it?
+1 yNeeds to start happening more often.
11 Reply- +1 y
Sure does! If I was in that store, I would've probably helped him beat that guy!!
I used to work graveyard shift at a 7-11 and we were always told never to go after thieves and to just call the campus police (it was part of a major university), who would be there in seconds because they were literally directly across the street from us! And, if we DID try to deal with the perp ourselves, we'd get fired because of insurance!
I'm guessing that the guy that beat the pemmican out of that guy WAS the owner so, he didn't give a shit!!

Isn't it?
Opinion Owner+1 yI agree with the two guys on the thread that said the clerks should have finished the job. Had they called the cops, the guy would be back on the street in hours. Hopefully this idiot will think twice before doing this again.
- +1 y
The only drawback is, the perp COULD get a bunch of his buddies to go back and destroy the store and possibly kill the clerks. However, he IS on camera so, we know what he looks like! I hope they swiped that shirt off his head before he left camera shot!
Opinion Owner+1 yFunkster,
Anyone fucking retarded enough to roll a garbage can into a 7-11 and knowingly, being on camera stealing, isn't likely to be able to pull a crew together like Ocean's Eleven.
- +1 y
These days, ya never know! There's ALL KINDS of psychos roaming the streets, these days!!
Opinion Owner+1 yFunkster,
I work with criminals. There is zero loyalty. They don't care about each other. I have a guy who I consider a friend. He's about 70 and robbed over 200 banks. But it was always small teller jobs. I asked George why he didn't go for the big heist. He said that would require a crew, and when it was done, he would have to kill his friends.
Maybe that dork will come back to that store or maybe not. But you love the beating he got just as much as me. LOL
- +1 y
I sure do and, I would've helped!!
I laughed through most of the beating.
