No. Ukraine is on their doorstep so they will be effected by any nukes launched in the form of radioactive fallout which will blow back on Russia spreading radioactive dust particles over citizens and will makes its way into drinking water and onto crops in the fields which will cause cancers and tumours in Russian citizens.

You might think chemical weapons but the problem there is that Ukraine can respond and chemical weapons like mustard gas can leave the soil toxic for decades and we saw the effects of agent orange after the Vietnam war.

Biological weapons are another option but again the Ukrainians can respond in kind and with Biological weapons there's always a danger of it affecting your own with Ukraine and Russia so close a biological weapons attack on the Ukraine people, agricultural or environment would certainly blow back on Russia.

What you will see from Russia is mass amounts of cruise missles and thermabaric bombs the flatten Ukrainian cities ww2 style and land mines will be a problem in Ukraine for decades long after the war is over.

No one will use nukes - they are only a deterrent, not an actual weapon.

You saw with the Fukushima nuclear plant how quickly and widely the tainted water spread around the coasts of the world. Now that was only an accident, and a fraction of the fallout a single nuke would cause.

It's why no one bothers with them, not even terrorists, as they are just a death sentence for all.

@jshm2 I can see Russia using nukes against the Ukraine as we seriously considered using nukes in Korea, and even iran.

Russia is unlikely to openly use nukes against a nuclear power or country protected by one.
that does not however mean Russia won't allow a few of their nukes to be 'lost' to 3rd party groups willing to do the same. Nor does it mean as the Russian goverment is undermined that this won't happen without their consent.

Russian commanders after all sabotaged their own military by selling off all equipment and maintenance supplies. Russians are clearly quite accustomed to selling goverment assets. Its just a question of how capable their goverment remains in controlling them.

Still if Russia want's revenge they have access to quite a few nasty bio-weapons they could stockpile vaccines for themselfs then anonymously release.

No. Russia will use nukes as massive alpha strike if their territory is massively invaded. Dropping some single tactical nuke on a country they try to conquer is absolutely counter productive in many ways.
- every country, even those who support Russia would turn their back to them
- ukrainian determination to fight would be encouraged
- every country around Russia would want to obtain nuclear weapons for retaliation in case of nuclear attack
- very likely nuclear retaliation on some bigger Russian city by Ukraine with "unofficial" help from NATO

No. Any long range will get intercepted and a drone drops a normal bomb on putin. That's why we can push helping Ukrainian.
