Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson has left the Democrat party to become a Republican. Your opinion?

There have been a few politicians who have left the Democrat party to become Republican. Some in Democrat states like New Jersey and New York. Why has there been not a single Republican that has become a Democrat?

It was no surprise to the Democrats.

Texas Democratic Party leadership called the switch “welcome” and said he was dishonest for running as a Democrat for his reelection in May this year.

“Given his long-standing affinity with Republican leaders and ideology … this announcement is neither surprising nor unwelcome,” the party wrote in a statement. “This feeble excuse for democratic representation will fit right in with Republicans — and we are grateful that he can no longer tarnish the brand and values of the Texas Democratic Party.”

The Dallas mayor’s office is nominally nonpartisan, but Johnson has been pushing Republican politics into the office and is talking about doing even more. Dallas wants a non-partisan mayor, but Johnson does not care what the citizens want. He intends to do as much damage as he can during his term.

Why has no Republican become a Democrat? Because they know they can do more evil with the support of the GOP than as a Democrat.

As the Democrat Party's moves further to the left, it must rely more on peer pressure to keep its members in line. But as it policies are implemented and fail, it becomes more difficult with a conscience to keep up the lies that support the left.

Yes and in the case of West Virginia where 3 Democrats switched parties they realize that the whole state is angry at the democrats anti energy policies and know that all democrats will get voted out.

Maybe they was us "Think" they're Rebublicans but they are spies for the Democrats. I don't trust any one of them. They all lie!

People change party affiliation all the time. People will read something into this, whether it's warranted or not.

@exitseven Is it? I know several people who switched from Republican to Democrat shortly after Bush defeated Gore in 2000 in the controversial Florida "hanging chad" incident. I might guess Democrat to Republican IS more common though... It's easier to become more conservative than to become more liberal.

Thee were two in WV and a guy in New Jersey. I think there was one in NY too. I am sure there are others but I have not heard of one single Republican going to the other side. Maybe it is a sign of things to come?

If I'm not mistaken, that clown Arlen Specter went Dem --> Rep --> Dem. And that Justice governor was a Rep, ran and won as a Dem, then switched back to Rep.

If I were to take a stab at it then its probably because of politics. Maybe he has a challenger that would win against him or perhaps more likely he was afraid that whoever ran as a republican against him in the next election would win so he made sure that there would be no need to replace him.
