No- you don't get to have your demographic be President just because it hasn't happened before. Let's look at previous cases of that:

-We never had a Catholic President; then we got Kennedy.

-We never had a bachelor President; then we got Van Buren (probably the mildest on this list).

-We never had a black President, then we got Obama.

-We never had a union boss President, then we got Reagan.

-We never had an absolute fuckwit President, then we got Fillmore.

Meritocracy is the name of the game. Now, we COULD have had a President who was informed, moderate, wanted to end the forever wars, was deeply concerned about our national infrastructure, cared about HEALING the political rift in the country, was below retirement age, AND was a woman on top that (and was an idiot about nuclear power, but hey, you can't have everything), but the country- or at least the DNC- decided on Biden instead.

This constant need to "break the glass ceiling" is absurd and clearly is backfiring on the left. If we focus on merit rather than gender or race then quite naturally strong leaders of every group will eventually rise up. Ironically this push to get women and minorities into leadership or desirable roles is actually making it harder for us. Now everyone assumes we didn't even qualify for the position, but that the company or government just needed to fill their diversity quotas. It's a step back not a step forward. A pretty little facade until it comes crashing down.

@Pegases I understand your point, but I live in a deep blue city that’s constantly in the national news. Every democrat that I’ve had a conversation with are either an extremist who gets unstable with just a single question or are completely clueless about the issues (but will still vote for anyone with a D beside their name.) It's completely by design and sadly the reality where I live. We need more critical thinkers. That's what we need.

Sounds like you should run for office. Because we definitely do need more critical thinkers. It's unfortunate that so many people lack self awareness, and essentially just follow the crowd, but it is what it is. Leaders have to step up so that those with bad intentions down lead people astray. Because ultimately that all this back and forth with each other is. We can't focus on real problems when democrats or Republicans are the enemy.

Indeed, they say following the crowd is the strongest instinct. It's easier to let other's decide and to not stick out, but look at how much trouble that gets us.

We aren't "due" anything. When a solid candidate throws her hat in the ring, then she will stand a good chance at winning.

Right now we have Marianne Williamson, who's entire schtick is a fake personality appealing to the niche of new age religion lunatics, and Nikki Haley, who's a shrill shill for all of the worst parts of the Republican party, and of course Kamala Harris, who may legitimately be mentally retarded. The only reasonably decent one we've had was Carly Fiorina, who basically destroyed her own campaign by hiring (and listening to) the worst advisors on the planet, which implies pretty poor judgment that would've plagued a hypothetical administration. If a woman is to be elected president, we need much better options than what has become the norm.
